iPhone 5s Power Button Rattles

Interestingly ....

I read a few people were being told that it was the camera lense et blah blah.

My 'power button' rattle can be demonstrated by gently tapping the iPhone - now I assumed it was the power button as it was in that area - eg above the camera lense. I also noticed the volume buttons were loose and wobbled too - potentially adding to the problem.

So today I tried holding all the buttons and tapping the phone - guess what? It STILL rattled in the same area, so i can only conclude that something INSIDE is rattling !!

Yes, the other buttons rattle too, but considerably less so. I can confirm something inside rattles as well when holding all four buttons, but this is even less. I need to be be in a really quiet environment to hear the inside noise. This may well be the lens that Apple staff refers to, but I'm not sure.

Anyway ***** to have this in a new (almost) 1000 USD phone with no service from Apple.

I can see that the posts continue to arrive.

Since my 5S Apple case, and when I also hold all buttons, yes, something inside does rattle. Something(s) is loose.

I have yet to take a video. That will be the test of whether the device is truly faulty or not.

If functionality is affected, it's a clear fault and I would not stop until I received a 100% functional device or a refund.

I also cannot imagine a how a power button related rattle would affect video sound.

There are worse examples in my other video's the main reason I bought the phone was for video and in particular track days useing various apps and so forth.

How incredibly disapointing, I will be visiting the applestore next weekend to see what they will do about it.

That Apple can continue to see iphone 5s, knowing that it's defective with a power button rattle , must be a blatant breach of UK Consumer Law, and EU Consumer Law.

Dies anyone know the rights of consumers when confronted with a product where the manufacturer knows it's defective, but lies, and continues to sell it to unsuspecting customers?

Apple needs to address this. I just took a video of my 2 kids at Halloween with their costumes on and everything and the video is completly ruinied by that clicking noise that is coming from the loose sleep button. Please don't try to convince me that it is the lense. It isnt. It's the button that rattles.

And it is a defect, plain and simple. Apple needs to address those affected.

Then by all means return your iPhone and enjoy your other phones. 🙂 It does not appear you came here to learn or find out anything you didn't already know, or wish others to believe.

The point of these forums is to log issues as well as get advice and share issues and concerns.

We don't need advice from others to forget what bothers people who spend big money on premium products like the 5S which clearly upset the very customer base Apple needs to sell its products

On a different note, How can the sleep button rattle come through on a video?

For mine, it is more than that - a combination perhaps, but the camera seems to be the main suspect if videos capture theinternal noise of components

You lodge a complaint with your consumer rights organization AFTER you have evidence from Apple that they are unprepared to do anything to address your concerns

@JohnP If you read my post or any of my posts, I don't personally use all those phones but use them for work (software development). You judging me, stating that I didn't come here to learn anything or seek a solution is wrongheaded and borderline apologist. If you have read any of my posts on the matter, you would clearly understand that I am trying to get a solution and suggesting I just use another phone is ridiculous. Clearly we are all here because we like Apple products for some reason or another, and have a certain expectation of quality and craftsmanship. Mocking people for being upset that there phone has a defect is not contributing to the conversation at all, but suggesting that we should all just go home and not complain about this, which I strongly disagree with.

The real problem is, Apple has made billions by setting the expectation to the customers that their products are premium, well designed, with good craftsmanship, backed by an incredible ecosystem, and great customer service that will fix problems and admit mistakes and fix them if it comes to that. And then delivering.

Obviously, errors happen when you get to Apples scale on the assembly line. The problem is, the expectations have not changed and unless Apple openly comes out and says, you know what, there are gonna be defects and if you get one, well too bad, I and everybody else should continue to expect excellence from Apple and expect them to fix mistakes. What, you say, we shouldn't expect this? Well then Apple needs to own it and change that expectation. They will not, because that will take away one of their key differentiators which is laser like attention to detail and great customer service. A lot of people don't just buy apple products for the hardware or software, they buy for the ecosystem, the attention to detail, the great customer service, and the willingness to fix mistakes.

Coming in this forum and just laughing at people or suggesting they ignore it or return the phone is, in my opinion, not constructive at all. My post offered information and highlights what is a real issue that many people are having.

Unless Apple wants to change expectations, they need to own this, and fix it.

I've just contacted Apple Care, they requested for everyone to leave their "rattle noise" feedback on this link, http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html They'll take action once they receive a load of complaints on record. I left this message on a previous post as well. Apple may not offer returns or admit to the issue, but there's no harm doing it, just copy and paste whatever you've written here.

If one's 5S videos record rattling internals it is a handset replacement. No argument unless it cannot be replicated

The Apple feedback link? Can someone get someone from Apple to state in writing that they read the feedback?

Sounds to me that Apple ony listens to customers who present handsets with faults, or reports in the media which have the potential to impact on sales

Bump. Anybody get a good replacement yet?? Still don't want to try and go in until I hear that Apple is fixing this issue with this defect.
