Hey Apple: How do you permanently delete iMessages (saved) ?!

I am also having issues with deleting imessages. I will swipe, delete the thread and then close out of the message app. When I log back in, the screen is completely white...no other messages showing at all. I then do a reset on my phone, go back into messages and they are all there again...including the thread I just tried to delete. This is incredibly frustrating as they are taking up a great deal of space on my phone.

How can this be resolved?!

Settings , iCloud , account , mail , advanced , deleted messages , remove never , after one day , after one week , after one month. This works but you have to wait one day if you wish to remove ASAP.

Not clear on how deleting email helps with imessages (texts)????

You should give this method a try to see if it works for you. Or you can keep searching the forum for some other method or download.

When you do the reset are you restoring from backup?

I Am not doing a hard reset. I have to shut down my phone, reboot it and then when my phone comes back on, I go into iMessages and the deleted messages have returned, like they were never deleted. After I delete the messages, close out of the app, I go back in and it's a completely white screen...can't even type a new iMessage.

Have you tried deleting the messages and NOT shutting down your phone or rebooting it. Try and perform a sync and back up with iTunes after you delete the messages. Good luck

Tried it and seems to have worked. Sync'd, backed up, went back into the phone, closed messages. Opened the app back up and the deleted messages were still deleted.

Perhaps it was just the fact that you were turning your phone off too fast and the phone wasn't adjusted to the messages being deleted yet. Once you delete your messages , just leave your phone on and let time heal everything. Thanks for asking and good night

None of these solutions will work. You're asking the wrong questin.

Its not how to permantly delete imessages on your iPhone, but how to delete imessages from an iCloud account. Even if you go through all of these steps once you log onto your icloud from another device all of your information will be loaded onto that device too. The "deleted" messeages your are talkng about are saved to your icloud and not your idevices. I still do not have an answer to your question as I am trying to figure it out myself.

P.s. this has nothing to do about the NSA, imessages saves your text messages so that when you log onto your computer the appear not only on your phone, but also on your computer or ipad.

I just tried that exact same procedure and it didn't work. Sync'd, backed up, closed messages app, opened back up and voila - blank white screen with the all the messages I didn't want to delete gone, and unable to send or receive new messages. I reboot phone and the messages I did delete are back. This is ridiculous.

Settings , iCloud , account, mail, advanced , deleted messages-remove. Remove after one day is the quickest way to get rid of these. So not reboot after you delete your messages.

First, my icloud mail isn't even set up, meaning i don't have my emails going to icloud. Second, I don't see how removing deleted emails would remove deleted imessages or texts. Last, when I go Settings, iCloud, Account.. it stops there. It only shows icloud account info.. no advanced and certainly no removing deleted messages. Maybe you're talking about Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars in which I have pop email going to my phone but I already have that set as removing deleted messages after one day long before I started having this particular problem so no joy there. Whatever it is, it started happening when I upgraded to the latest iOS so it must be connected to that. Hopefully enough people complain about it to the point that Apple does something about it. Thanks for the advice though.

even the " spot light " search!! Type in just a few random letters and it brings up old conversations! You "supposable" deleted..

why why is apple keeping all of are search history, iMessages, ect..??

so how do I really know what I delete from my phone is really gone for good????
