Mails send with Apple Mail get displayed always with font times new roman. Is there are workaround? When does Apple fix this. It´s unprofessional if you have to use mail for business.

I have the same dream, only it's a nightmare, one where I am stuck with what other people, (some I have never met) assume that I want to look at because it is their layout. All I need is legibility without distraction.

At least (if it ever happens) it will make choosing who to ignore simpler.

That's why I said "proper alternative display" so that I can write it the way I want it and you recieve it the way you like it.

You have that already, set the fonts the way you like to see them, your recipient may see something else.

You can set the display to show as you choose on your machine, but you can't control it on another machine, do you not agree with that?

For the life of me I don't understand why people continue to defend the absence of such a basic feature in Mail app. At the end of the day this all boils down to usability. Going on about how one can't control how the recipient views one's email may be "technically" true, but for all intents and purposes it's not because by default nearly all modern email clients will respect the formatting information contained in the email unless the user specifically chooses to override it ... and the vast majority of users do not. As has been stated previously, the issue here is that Mail does not send any formatting information at all by default ... which is particularly brain dead since there is a preference where you can specify it. It will send the formatting information only if one manually sets it in the individual email. Personally I wish my outgoing emails to be in Helvetica Neue 14. Clearly you aren't suggesting that I should have to set this formatting information on every ... single ... email? Even though I've already specified this in preferences? That is a spectacular usability fail any way you slice it! Sure it is "possible" that I might send an email to someone who wishes to view all their email in Time New Roman 18 for readability purposes and what I specified will be overridden. There's certainly nothing to stop them from doing so nor do I advocate there should be. The point is that it is not "probable" ... and so in the absence of proper formatting info being sent by default Mail users are pretty much guaranteed to have their emails viewed in some font other than what they intended. Unless, of course, one prefers Times New Roman with font sizes that change sporadically for no apparent reason? 😕

It is true that the Universal Mailer plug-in works for the most part. I use it myself. The million dollar question is why must Mail users resort to a third-party plug-in to deliver such a basic feature? When to my knowledge, no other major email client has this problem? This has been an issue since at least OS X 10.4. Perhaps longer. As I stated to Apple in my feedback to them imploring them to finally address this issue ....

I am pretty sure it continues in OS 10.10. They are consistent if nothing else....

Like many other apple converts, I have been using a pc for years. Bought top of the range macbook air thinking it would solve a number of pc related issues. It did. However, the mail thing is totally ridiculous.

C Sound - I don't know whether you are just an active member, or working for Apple, but your responses come across as snotty and unhelpful. I'll refrain from expletives. Basically you put information up which we all know (i.e. where to change fonts in the apple mail). Just reading this forum, everyone with a problem knows how to do this.

however, the problem everyone has cannot be solved via apple mail. I have now tried every hack under the sun, - same problem.

Whats the problem.....I send a message with font of lets say Arial. How does that look to someone using outlook on pc (i.e. 90% of the planet).....crap. Times new roman.....really....I thought I was buying an apple where everything is about nice graphics blah blah blah.

I can't even say how hacked off i am about the fact that no-one at apple has even attempted to provide a solution to this incredibly basic problem.

oh and before any of your mac 'techies' start. Don't. I can probably code far better than you can with my eyes shut - however what most people on this forum want is a straight forward answer. After all, that is why we have all converted to Apple - because apparently everything is straight forward........

Then code away. Write your own email client that works as you wish. You have a half-dozen customers right here.

Unfortunately you are correct. This usability fail is still present in Yosemite. And so I've sent Apple the exact same feedback about it as I have for all their recent releases. Universal Mailer still functions as a workaround. Hopefully that won't change anytime soon.
