Retina MacBook Pro not waking from sleep.

A week or so ago my rMPB would wake from sleep to a grey screen - unresponsive, no desktop.

A few days later it started waking to a black screen but the backlight was on. Again, unresponsive, no desktop.

On reading some posts on the subject I decided to re-install ML and this seemed to have solved the problem. It woke normally from sleep to a usable desktop.

Last night I closed the lid to put it into sleep and left it overnight.

On trying to wake it this morning there was no sign of life at all. Black screen, no backlight, no keyboard backlighting.

I pressed the power button briefly and still nothing at all.

Consequently I powered it off holding the power button for a few seconds.

I then powered it on and it booted from cold fine.

I went out for a couple of hours today after closing the lid again and when I came back it did exactly the same thing. Nothing.

Any advice for me please? Anything I can check on?

Thanks.

Here's an update - just as a heads-up to others.

The above didn't work so I re-installed OSX and all was fine for a few days. Then the same problem presented again.

I have a mid 2012 rMBP 10,1 and have Windows installed natively (ie EFI Boot) together with Ubuntu 13-04 (also EFI Booting).

I also installed rEFInd boot manager to get the pretty little icons at startup to choose which OS I want to start.

Mac's Alt+Boot is ok but when you have more than one other OS EFI booting it lumps both in the one icon and on selecting that icon it presents another screen that gives you the choice between the 2 OSes. A little long-winded but there it is.

So in order to choose which OS to boot rEFInd was a better option.

However, rEFInd seems to be causing my problem with waking from sleep. I have uninstalled it twice and the problems disappeared. When I re-install it they return.

I have spoken to the maintainer of rEFInd and he is aware of a few similar cases but only with later model Mac's.

I'm sure a fix will be forthcoming at some time in the future but for the moment I have stopped using rEFInd.

If any other users are having similar problems I would suggest they try that.
