Music disappearing from phone ios 7

Ever since updating to ios 7 (and still with 7.0.2), some of my music has been randomly disappearing from the music app. I'll select a song, then the song will then skip to the next song and onto the next and so on until it finds a song that plays. You can see the artwork of the record(s) flip many times and the song track name change. If it can't find a song, it will dump me back to the Artist list. I read a few other forums where beta testers were reportin this back in July, but couldn't find any resolution. My only real resolution is syncing the phone with itunes, removing all the songs & podcasts, then putting the songs back.

I do have a few ideas on what is causing this. I'm big into podcasts and sync my phone with itunes many times a day to make the played/uplayed list on the podcast app on the phone and the podcast section of itunes match up perfectly. I figured to rely on my phone to look at what was played and then have the podcast in itunes be marked as played, but this doesn't happen all the time... the phone keeps the played podcasts on the phone (when it shouldn't) and doesn't put all the unplayed podcasts on the phone. I would then mark what was played on the phone and then in itunes and sync the phone again so only unplayed podcasts show on the phone and sync again. During this second sync, the "waiting for changes to be applied" shows on itunes for a long time before finally completing. I feel this would be the cause to my problem, the syncing one after the other after manually correcting. I'll see if manually maintaining my podcasts on my phone and itunes will prevent the issue, but I'm wondering if anyone else has this problem

(I've posted this in a few other threads concerning this same problem. I know how frustrating it is to not get any solutions. I hope this works for everyone)

Issue: iOS Music application either has items listed in the library that will not play; or has an empty library but iTunes reports that music is present on the device and taking up space; or a combination of these issues coupled with the inability to resolve the problem through the standard resolution steps of disabling music syncing to remove all music and then re-enabling or by enabling "manually manage library" and removing the items.

Additionally, attempting to restore from a back-up does not resolve the issue and the default response from the Apple Support Community is to factory restore the device and treat as new device, resulting in loss of all settings and basically starting from scratch.

Cause of issue: Corrupted iOS device iTunes library (MediaLibrary.sqlitedb). This database stores the iTunes Media records and related information such as playcount, lyrics etc. It does not store information and settings regarding iOS Applications as far as I am aware so this should be safe.

Resolution Steps:

  1. Perform a back-up to your local computer rather than iCloud if practical. This will be quicker in the event of issues.
  2. Download a iOS device manager such as Phone View which will allow you to directly access the file structure of the device. (This will NOT require an illegal jailbreak to be performed!)
  3. Enable the Advanced View mode so the entire disk structure is accessible.
  4. Browse to the following file: iTunes_Control/iTunes/MediaLibrary.sqlitedb
  5. Rename MediaLibrary.sqlitedb to MediaLibrary.sqlitedb-backup or similar
  6. Hold down POWER and HOME on your iOS device until the Apple logo appears. Release both buttons.
  7. When device has rebooted, connect to iTunes and synchronise it.
  8. iTunes will detect that the Media Library on the device is missing and recreate it based on the items that it has listed in the iTunes synchronisation record for the

For Windows users, I suggest that you download Touchcopy in order to access the files mentioned in the thread above.

I hope this is the solution for everyone having this problem. You won't have to reset your device. |t's really simple 🙂

Dude!! I need to really kiss your hand!! Yoohoooo!! It worked!! I got all my music!! Thanks so much!! Phone is free of ghost files in mp3 as of now until that ios file gets corrupted again in the library. But dont you think Apple should resolve this issue soon? After all how many people can be tech savvy enough to rename a file in the iphone which cant be read without a software!Apple must do something! This thing bogged me for like a month!! Imagine the plight of those people who are not tech-savvy and am speaking about millions who use iphones and ipods and ipads!Apple please look into this for all those consumers who trust you and have made Apple into a multi-billion dollar company...Adios for now and dude thanks once more! I expected an Apple guy to get back...do they ever?:) Bye!
