I have never had a problem with any update until now. 10.4.7 didn't finish installing (it closed itself). My system wouldn't boot properly, so I did an Archive & Install, then tried it again - same problem. I did another Archive & Install & this time installed the 10.4.6 Combo. I usually skip the verification of the installer (using Onyx), but decided to let it do the check when I expanded it the third time. It had an invalid checksum error, as did the QuickTime 7.x.x update. I think that some of the downloads people are getting are corrupted (possibly server errors or ISP errors). I won't be installing 10.4.7 until I download it again & it expands without a checksum error.

Out of curiousity, on my machine I use an external
drive for my iTunes collection. Does anyone else
with (apparently) the same problem use an external
disk?
Yes, I do that. I'd be curious (and kinda surprised) to see if THAT is the problem . . .
10.4.7 instigated a kernel Panic in that machine. I am in process of an erase and reinstall. I'm using a lot of foul language today . . .
R C-R pretty much beat me to it, but I would like to comment on this:
True, but that is not the situation here. My system was running remarkably well before the update. So were several of the others here as described by the authors.
How it seems to be running and how things are below the surface are sometimes totally different. I am one of those who (a couple of years ago) had what I thought was a good system until it let go and there was a cascading effect on applications, data and the system itself. Even Disk Warrior gave up and I ended up installing.
Of course, my system was running remarkably well before the update. I think.
Well, all the problems that I had are now solved with my iMac G5. (see my post earlier) I backed up the important files, found out that the update did not fully load, and finally did a clean install.
As soon as it finished booting up and setting up all the basic preferences I dowloaded and installed the update to 10.4.7 and all the others through the system's Software update in the preferences pane. I reinported all the saved, important data. and it works perfect so far.
I will have to play with it to see if the problems that everyone else is having show up. I did the update on my powerbook G4 1.5 and it works just fine, no glitches so far.
Looking back, the problem with the update was the fact that the update was interupted during install. The computer must have fallen asleep during the process, and/or there were other underlying problems.
Always allow the file verification to do its job. Always repair permissions before any major system update. These two things will prevent a multitude of problems.
