iphone 5C screen cracked with no impact

I just bought an iphone 5C and had it sitting on a flat surface, not even touching it. I heard something looked down and the screen was cracked (3 hours after buying it). It was not dropped or impacted or under extreme heat, nothing, it just cracked, I think its poor design!

Anyone else have an issue with the screen?

ON TOPIC

What are the current updates on this issue? Anybody

Intended to get a Green XZ3 compact(hesitant due to amount of spontaneous cracking+bad customer service complaints)

, now intending to get a Green 5c !

There are not updates because there is no issue. There is no rash of spontaneous cracking. There is cracking that people didn't notice until it got larger. There are people complaining about "bad" customer service because Apple adhered to the terms of the warranty.

There are cases of hairline cracks/single clean crack from plenty 'a people, even right before their eyes.

Just because there are no updates, doesn't mean there isn't an issue: just that the issue isn't un/officially addressed +examined for most probable causes & a solution found

I've had some techs tell me it could be the expanding Li-ion battery inside, and logical cases of cold-to-heat scenarios(but what if it there were no sudden temperature change for most of the situations?)

So how many ACTUAL cases of this are there? 25 million? 30 million? 5 million?

Since the 1st iPhone there have been cases of some screens breaking from a manufacturing defect. It happens. You take it to an Apple Store, they inspect it and make the decision. Most of the cases of this are just like Meg said.

You reversed what I said. I did not say that "just because there are not updates, doesn't mean there isn't an issue". I said that, since there was not issue, there was nothing to update. Please don't imply I said or meant something I did not.

What people believe to be spontaneous cracks most often are not. Just because people were not aware of when or how the original impact occurred does not mean it did not occur.

I was my nearest Apple Store Monday for a cracked screen. The guy who waited on me said a hairline crack is covered under my warranty, but I was out of warranty so it cost me 129 + tax. I have an extended warranty on my Discover Card. The adjustor just got back to me today, finally, and they want some sort of written verification of this. I don't think I’m going to get it. But I'll try anyway. For what it's worth.

A couple of minutes ago I was on my computer watching netflix when i hear a little cracking sound. I wasn't using my phone so I didn't actually watch it happen, but when I looked at the screen there was a crack from end to end (horizontally) on my screen. I had not dropped it or anything and it simply cracked. Unfortunately its been some time since I bought my 5c so even if there was something apple could do, they can't anymore.

I just hope this issue gets fixed as I find that crack very annoying and it confuses me to why it happened.

There is no "issue" to get fixed. Your broken screen needs to be fixed. At some point, your phone screen was subjected to an impact. The impact did not crack the screen but it did cause damage. Something, possibly heat while charging it, caused the weakened area to crack and the crack to spread across the whole screen. I've had this happen with a watch. I banged it while hiking but it seemed fine. The next morning when I woke up, there was a crack all the way across the crystal.

Make an appointment at the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store to have the screen repaired.

I had mine crack while sitting on its back. I had plugged it into the charger and started reading mail. Heard a 'tinc' sound, looked down, and saw a half-inch long, hairline crack in the middle of the lower middle of the screen, an inch from the button, and nowhere near an edge. When I first saw it, it was from light reflecting off the surface, and thought, "how did that scratch get there, when it wasn't there just a few minutes ago?" Then, on a closer inspection, I could see the crack extending through the glass. That was about 2 weeks ago, and the crack hasn't grown. But, the phone is long past its warranty period.

My son's iPhone 6 screen cracked without dropping. Difficult for boys to carry phone in a case and keep in their pockets. `

I think it's difficult, perhaps impossible, for boys to carry phones without dropping them or bumping them agains things (in fact, that's pretty true of most people). Just because they don't remember (or won't admit) to dropping or bang the phone doesn't mean it didn't happen. Phones also don't get bent without some significant degree of force applied to them.

Any phone with a large glass screen is at risk of being cracked. Either get a decent case or decent insurance. At the very least, get a tempered glass screen protector.

No Meg, sorry. I didn't post this so you could call my son a liar. The truth is the phone cracked in his pocket. It was posted so others might prevent the same thing from happening. I really don't need the advice to get a "decent case" or "decent insurance". I think it was obvious in my posting that a case would be a good idea, but that is uncomfortable for a boy or a man to have the excess of the case in their pocket.
