External thunderbolt hard disk not powered from MBP

i just bouth a Lacie Rugged external hard disk (1TB, Thuderbolt series).

when i connect the drive to my early 2011 MacBookPro it doesn't appears on the desktop -- the drive doesn't receive power from thunderbolt cable (led remains off)

i tried the following:

1) connected my MBP to another external thunderbolt drive and it works (this drive has external power) = thunderbolt port on MBP works fine

2) connected Lacie Rugged to my iMac via thunderbolt cable and it also works = drive is ok, original thunderbolt cable is ok, it is powered from thuderbolt port

3) connected Lacie Rugged to my MBP via USB and it works = drive is ok, it receives power supply from USB port

4) connected Lacie Rugged drive to my MBP with another thunderbolt cable that i am sure is fine = drive doesn't get powered, disk won't mount

earlier today at local apple store i have been told that this drive was the best choice for my 2011 MBP...

so anyone knows why this drive is not working (not getting powered) via thuderbolt connection?

i searched over internet and on this forum with no luck, thanks in advance for your help

Hi,

I'm having a similar issue, can't remember whether my motherboard has been replaced, top cover and keyboard were replaced.

Am running 22.1 firmware: Used to use the Apple LED Cinema Display (so needed the patches).

It's possible I lost the patches (when I had to recreate the filesystem a year ago, but then if that was the case it wouldn't be showing firmware 22.1.

I have a case open with LaCie.

ok i've read:

External thunderbolt hard disk not powered from MBP

My drive is getting power from the Thunderbolt port.

Also I'm running 22.1 version of the thunderbolt firmware, which is what the two patches mentioned in the knowledgebase article are supposed to achieve.

MacBook Pro:

Vendor Name: Apple, Inc.

Device Name: MacBook Pro

UID: 0x0001000A163BECE0

Firmware Version: 22.1

Port:

Status: Connected

Link Status: 2/7

Port Micro Firmware Version: 2.0.7

Rugged THB USB3:

Vendor Name: LaCie

Device Name: Rugged THB USB3

Vendor ID: 0x3

Device ID: 0xC

Device Revision: 0x2

UID: 0x0003000031B50820

Firmware Version: 7.3

Port:

Status: Connected

Link Status: 2

Super Port Micro Firmware Version: 0.0.17

So the solution in the article above won't resolve my issue.

Guess I need to wait for LaCie to respond to my case.
