burn a mov file to dvd disk

Hi, trying to burn a short MOV file to a dvd and wish to know the proper procedure.

The file is presently on my iMac, but wish the dvd to play on a dvd player.

Step by step instructions would be great since I've not done this before.

I've never perfomrd a burn image, so if that's necessary kindly provide instructions.

Thank you.

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4), 1Tb, Titanium Ext FireWire Dr

Old Toad, doesn't work because my OS 10.5 is an upgrade, and so it needs to find OS 10.4 in order to install.

I'm at 10.8 and don't relish the thought of going way back.

BTW/ my nephew is trying to convert the file, but would like to know what the final format should be.

Do you know what format it should be saved as in order to play on a DVD player?

Please advise.

Well I tried a software named SimplyBurn, which supported a iso file.

Part of the discription reads:

"Share your movies.

Made your own movies and want to share them with family and friends? No problem. Burn can create a wide range of video discs. From VideoCD to DVD-Video discs. And DivX discs to fit more of your videos on a disc."

Using Prisim, I converted the MOV file to iso and with SimplyBurn I burned the file to disc.

All went well, it finalized and even got the message that all was OK.

However, when I tried the disc in the DVD player it read

"Disc cannot be played"

Back on the computer I clicked open the disc which shows to folders

AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS

The AUDIO folder is blank

The VIDEO has the followng files

file://localhost/Volumes/VIDEO/VIDEO_TS/VIDEO_TS.BUP

file://localhost/Volumes/VIDEO/VIDEO_TS/VIDEO_TS.IFO

file://localhost/Volumes/VIDEO/VIDEO_TS/VTS_01_0.BUP

file://localhost/Volumes/VIDEO/VIDEO_TS/VTS_01_0.IFO

file://localhost/Volumes/VIDEO/VIDEO_TS/VTS_01_1.VOB

None of these files will automatically open without choosing an application.

I tried this first because Pacifist costs $20.00 and I can buy iLife for $43.00

If you haven't any helpful answers I may as well just invest in iLife.

Thanks for your help.
