cannot play shared videos - get "you don't have permission to access the requested resource" error

Same here. Works great on my sons ipad 1 but my ipad on iOS 7 no go

I too have this problem on my iPad 3 running ios7. I also get the message for videos I have created myself in iMovie.

On my ios 7 device I want into settings > video and signed out of home sharing. I then signed in with my same user and tried reconnecting to my remote library and play a video. It's now working.

My issue was resolved with a call to Apple. I reset network settings on my iPad. Now it works fine.

I hate resetting network settings. Alas.

I reset my network as suggested and I was able to start streaming video from iTunes on my mac to my iPad running iOS 7. Thanks for the tip.

Wait ... how did you reset network settings? I got this same error message while 3/4 through a video that I was streaming from my iTunes library to my iPad. How does it suddenly do this while playing a video? What triggers it? Now I can't play any of my videos on my iOS devices.

Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings

I was having the same problem streaming videos from shared library on an iMac on my local network using home sharing. Used to work flawlessly. Got occasional "don't have permissions" error, but rebooting either the iPad or iTunes fixed it. This only happens with iOS 7. No problem with AppleTV. Resetting the network setting let me watch 30 seconds of a shared movie...and then the error popped up. Same error with any shared movies from local network.

Rebooting iTunes on the host Mac is the only wax I've been able to fix it...which is a pain! And it comes back intermittently.

Thanks all for the insight. I've been having this issue too. I'm also seeing Airplay drop when trying to play music. Setup is appleTV->TimeCapsule for network -> ipad Air. All seem to be on the latest revs, but there definitely seems to be something "connection centric" going on.

I had this problem too.

I am running iTunes on an old PowerPC MacMini using iTunes 10.6.3. I was trying to stream video on my iPad mini and kept getting the error: "You do not have permission to access the requested resource".

So, I turned on iTunes on my laptop which is using Mavericks and the latest version of iTunes. It worked fine off it. It's just sometimes I like to keep my laptop in its bag and run things off my iPad through my MacMini.

So, I did follow the reset network settings on my iPad. It fixed it temporarily. In the middle of an episode of BBT the error message came up again.

I tried starting iTunes again. I reboot the machine. Still got the error.

So, I ran Onyx on the MacMini. There were a lot of permission errors on the hard drive. Once I fixed those, it seems I now have permission to access that resource.

If you have a disk utility, try running it on your source computer to fix any disk permissions or errors that may be causing the error.

In my case, it was the disk permissions needed repair.
