some songs don't sync! iPhone 5 (ios7.0.2), iTunes 11.1.1

Last week I tried to sync my iphone and iTunes said I had to install the latest version to do so.

After I installed the 11.1.1, some songs don't sync with the iPhone.

On the 'on this iPhone' tab on iTunes it shows this same songs with a circle before the name, and they are grey, not black as the ones that are on the iPhone.

I've tried to find out what's wrong, even wondered if I did something to mess this up, but I can't figure it out.

Help? Anyone? 😐

The 'on this iPhone' list look like this:

Securityboy,

Neither my iPhone 5 nor my iPad sync properly when I tried the direct connection to my iMac.......my phone sync'd some songs and created 2 playlists in iTunes and erased about 110 of the most recently loaded songs from iTunes.

The fix is not easy! Ever since the newest firmware update my iPhone has turned to crap, with decreased battery life & this sync issue.....it even erases my ringtones. I'm sure it must have erased some of my contacts also.

I'm almost ready to sell my iMac & other Apple products and go get a crappy Windows 8 machine & tablet along with an oversized Android phone.

It worked perfectly!!!! THANK YOU!!!

I had the same thing happen to me. The grayed out songs with a zero next to them. And then some songs sync, but not others.

I found a solution that worked for me for both my iPhone 5s and my iPad 4:

1) Uncheck the new songs you want to sync, along with all other songs from that artist, in your playlist in iTunes on your computer.

2) Use the USB cable to sync (turn off WiFi first on your iPhone).

3) After the sync completes, close iTunes on your computer.

4) Unplug your USB cable from your iPhone.

5) Open iTunes on your computer.

6) In your playlist in iTunes on your computer, check all of the new songs you want to sync, along with all other songs from that artist.

7) Plug in the USB cable to your iPhone.

8) After syncing, all of your songs should have synced to your playlist on your iPhone.

There must be a glitch in the new iTunes update that Apple will need to fix with another update. At least this workaround works until then. It was frustrating that it took me two days to figure out a solution, but I hope that others see this and are spared some of the misery I went through.

The only thing that worked for me is to go to iTunes, click on "device" (on the left side of screen) and under "options" make sure the box that says "Manually manage music and videos" is unchecked. Then click apply on the lower right and next sync your device. But beware, the box gets magically re-checked after you do a software update in iTunes so you'll have to uncheck it each time before you sync your device to iTunes.

Thank you alexfrombarrie. Frankly I didn't know whether to start crying or throw my iPhone 4s out the window. I have 2100+ songs in iTunes and only 27 songs were syncing to my iPhone. I tried what you suggested and now I am only missing 35ish songs from my iPhone. I am still kind of pi$$ed, but I'll live🙂

Again, thank you so much for your knowledge.

I have been trying to sync my music to my iphone 5s and have gone into my iTunes, clicked on "device" and under "options" made sure the box that says "Manually manage music and videos" was unchecked and it was unchecked - but I still don't have all my music, I have 5877 songs and the suggestion from wildersnesshike sounds like it would take me years. I cannot believe Apple does not have a fix for this. What has happed to Apple. I had the worst time loading the lastest version of iTunes and now I can't get to my music. I'm feeling lost. I use a PC with Windows 7. Has anyone been able to do some kind of globel fix.

Hi Guy's

I had eactly the same problem, I had a iPhone 4S and upgraded to a 5S, after the initial sync, only the purchased tunes from iTunes were available on my 5S, and also only after I had downloaded them from iCloud. Whereas on my iPhone 4S all the music I had selected to sync would sync.

I have however sorted the problem out by: On the iPhone 5S going to Settings>Music and right at the bottom is the "Home Sharing" section. The minute I put in my Apple ID into the home sharing section all of my music synced straight to my iPhone 5S.

Hope this works for you too!

OK, I've been playing with iTunes for several hours now. I tried deleting all the songs on my iPhone. I can't. Seems there are about 15 to 56 songs (depending on where I look) that stay on my phone no matter what I try to do.

Oh, Yea, I updated to iTunes 11.1.5

Here is what I'm getting. After deleting all of my Playlists and trying to delete all of the songs on my iPhone, (Note: there are still a lot of songs left on my phone that I can't find a way to delete.) I created a new Playlist. Note: I only have one playlist. Here is what I have right now.

My library has 2616 songs, including 666 purchased songs.

• Only one purchased song from my iPhone.

The Playlist I created for my iPhone has 1797 songs.

Clicking on the iPhone in "Devices" reveals "Music" and a folder with the name "iPhone"

and the Playlist titled "iPhone Playlist" as residing in the iPhone folder.

Clicking on Music shows 1803 songs

• (or 6 songs more than the Playlist)

While in "Device," if I click on 'Music' (instead of Summary), it shows 1802 songs on my iPhone.

• (or 5 songs more than the Playlist)

Opening "Music" on my iPhone and finding the number of songs I find 1851 songs.

• (or 54 songs more than the Playlist)

What gives? There is no correlation between any of them.

Why Can't I select which songs go on my iPhone from a Playlist?

( I thought that was the whole purpose of a Playlist. )

Where are these other songs coming from?

I really don't want to go through one-at-a-time and find the duplicates

This is really frustrating. Not only do the extra songs eat up memory, but, if I wanted them, I would have selected them. I would just like to have ONE location where I can find out what music is going to go onto my iPhone.

PS, the good news is, the clouds seem to have disappeared.

Generally, I had the same problem. What happened was when I was syncing my music to my iPhone, it got stuck at some point. So I decided to click the cancel button. The problem occured when I started sycing again. After hours of troubleshooting, I finally solved it. I deleted all the songs in my iTunes, copied it again and started sycing.

Problemo solved! 🙂

Hope it would help you guys.
