Hello everyone, I am trying to decide which type of bag to get (sleeve, backpack, or side bag). So I was just wondering what type all of you have gotten and what your reason for getting it is. Thank you so much for any input as I it will greatly help me in my decision.

I think I'm going to get a backpack style bag for mine. Not only does it provide many places for items, but it also discreetly hides the Macbook away and doesn't yell "I am a notebook bag, be sure to steal my contents".
In my case, I use the bag for trips and vacations so I put all the electronics into it. Digicam, camera, iPod, and all the cords and stuff. So I went with a luggage style bag. (Ogio). For everyday carry, a backpack is a great choice. I also got a Shinza ZeroShock sleeve for added protection.
How would a sleeve inside a regular backpack work out? Is a sleeve enough protection alone?
If you were just carrying the notebook, then the sleeve is okay for that. I would want a notebook backback that had the extra padding and pockets designed for your gear.
i use a burton Snowboards Dj bag, it offers a huge amount of pockets of various sizes, 2 removable cd cases (great for dvd's or software disks) Plenty of room for all cables etc plus alot more. It also has a padded laptop sleeve within the main compartment that just fits my 15inch mbp. This is a really tough bag, really well made, plenty of room. It is essentialy a messenger bag (side bag) but it also has hide away backpak strap should you with to put it on your back. It has a clever feature where you can expand the main compartment by undoing a couple of fastners aand a zip, which releases an extra few inches at the back of the main compartment. If you want a great overnight bag or carry on bag with room for a laptop, a change of clothes and more then you should chesc it out. Mine is a 2005 model, the 2006 is abit different looking but retains all the same design features! Check out the 2007 version to, not out yet but it looks sweet!! Good luck

I just purchased a RoadWired Skooba Computer Satchel (amazon.com - $65. It got good reviews from a number of gadget websites. Now if my MBP 15" would only ship!
I own a larger Targus 17" Platinum Deluxe Notebook Case... I like it because it offers a lot of room, in not a huge bulky object. I've only owned it for about 3 or 4 days (same with my MBP) but so far I would have to give it a 9 out of a 10. I can fit the power adapter, the DVI adapter, the remote, as well as some cds or dvds (has cd compartments). Also since I am a student, it has a nice "file style back that opens up to hold important documents....
I also just ordered the Incase Neoprene about an hour ago, and I am looking forward to that, just for a little bit more mobility... for example, running to my friends house, or sticking it in my backpack... I don't see the point of carrying the Targus bag, when you don't need the charger or adapters it holds...

I bought a Victorenox (Swiss Army) BackPack for my 15" MBP. It is really comfortable, cost effective, looks snazzy, and gives ZERO perception of being a laptop bag.
It also has more corner padding than most of the cases I have seen that will fit the 15" MBP.
It sells at Best Buy for $89 and they have a similar one (less corner protection) at the Apple Store for $79.
Good luck.

I don't like computer backpacks or bags, I am a very strong advocate of padded/ cushioned gloves/ sleeves (e.g. STM http://www.stmbags.com.au/glove), then simply place in your preferred bag/ case of choice (for me a hidesign atm). Much better solution.
I don't own the ViperM2 by Booq yet, but I've seen it in action and will soon:

It's designed for the MBP. So, it fits snug, is rigid and durable, and is formed with ridges for better impact protection. You can also unzip this sleeve quickly and can flip the cover back and leave the MBP inside to keep it protected while in use (or protect your legs if your MBP gets hot).
I recommend a sleeve of any sort because then you're covered for whatever situation your laptop may be transported in: a shoulder bag, backpack, seat of your car, etc.
