It has been like this out of the box, in any lighting condition I get these artifacts or smudges on my video or picture, they move around causing distraction and focus issues, most notably 5-10 of them in low light, bouncing around.
The photo below is an extreme case.

Took it to the apple store, got a new iPhone, and having the SAME issue! Hmmph.
I've got a similar issue with mine. its annoying as all ****. grrrrrr
Duvetdiva, I get this on my 5S, wife's 5S, my iPad 3, daughter's 5S. I noticed it taking sunset photos. I can shine the flash from a phone into the camera of another phone and I'll see this type of artifact. Any direct strong light source seems to do it. Aiming the iPhone camera at an overhead light in the room does it.
