My MacBook suddenly started running slow

Hello! I've had my MacBook Pro for since 2010 and it suddenly started running slow. This has been going on for a week already. I've restarted my MacBook many times and when I'm not using it I shut it down. I've tried many things to make it run faster and deleted 14k files that were mostly text documents, pictures, videos, etc. and deleted my whole iTunes library hoping it would work but nothing. I currently have 77.07 GB left but space has never been the problem since in the past I've had 10GB or to the point where I had no GB and it still ran perfectly. Two things I've noticed is that when it gets hot it starts running slow and also when I start watching videos on youtube or ones that are already in my MacBook. Last night I reset my SMC hoping it would work better and it only ran slow because of the heat but I see no change. I'm trying anything possible to fix this myself before taking it to the Apple Store and spending money on something I could've probably fixed myself.

Here's some information on my MacBook

MacBook Pro 13-inch, Mid 2010

Processor: 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 220M 256 MB

Software: OS X 10.8.5 (12F45)

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

There are some basic easy issues:

1. the adware: Adwaremedic.app, see the post of Madamcs

2. In SystemPreferences->User&Groups->LoginItems: remove all entries, with the minus sign underneath.

3. Empty the trash bin, and make some more space free on your startup disk.

Restart.

Most fio te slowness should be gone.

There are softwares that you better uninstall:

a. Valvesoftware Steamclean. And Uninstall the Torrent app.

b. In Finder go to

- Nu te bãga->Library->LaunchAgents and delete the adobe plist.

- then go to Nu te bãga->Library->LaunchDaemons and delete the adobe.Switchboard plist.(Note: Let the adobe.fpsaud plist alone, this is for adobe flashplayer).

- then in Nu te bãga->Library->Library->InternetPlug-ins and delete the two adobePDFViewer plugins.

- then in Finder click the GO menu while holding the Alt(option) key, choose Library, and in there LaunchAgents: in there delete the two ...adobe.ARM.. plists.

c. Formulate a good backup strategy.

Restart.

I´m having same issue.

No, it's not even close to the same. You have major issues with your installation and your migration efforts have failed in many cases. You have a lot of third party software that is either incompatible with Yosemite, not needed or improperly installed.

Several components of your OS are crashing and giving you Kernel Panics.

Please start a new discussion topic and leave a link here so others can find it easily.

1. Add Ram, minimum to 4GB better to 8GB.

2. remove both Safari extensions.

3. remove all entries in the LoginItems.

4. uninstall the Samsung devguru driver software.

5. uninstall all HP software.

6. download AdwareMedic from thesafemac.com and run it to remove the adware infections.

restart.

enjoy.

ps: read through the posts in this thread to see how to do this all.

-- 4GB Ram is not too much, but it should run correctly.

-- Your battery is dying, you should replace it asap !!

-- You have or had a serious crap software on this mac: MacKeeper ! A must to uninstall !!

-- Uninstall the Seagate Software, important ! You do not need it.

-- Uninstall Paragon, uninstall GoPro (GoPro may come back later after the issues are solved).

-- Uninstall Flip4Mac, unnecessary these days.

-- Delete the Safari extensions (Safari->Preferences->Extensions).

-- Remove all entries in MacintoshHD->Users&Groups->LoginItems with the minus sign underneath.

-- RESTART now, empty the Trash bin.

-- Update Flashplayer !!

-- The SierraWireless, Airparrot, LGEAD software must go (until later).

-- Stop using Chrome for the time being and use Safari, Firefox, or Opera; do not use more than one browser at the time, quit when ready.

-- In Finder Macintosh->Library->InternetPlugins delete the two AdobePDFViewer plugins: causing issues in 10.10, the built in PDFViewer is better.

-- I hope that you have properly uninstalled the improper old Adobe software.

After all this post a new message telling how it is now, and include a new etrecheck list.

RAM is always almost fully used...

That's the new normal that was introduced with Mavericks. The OS X Memory Management System attempts to keep RAM as full as possible to avoid having to access the hard drive, saving time and energy. The only thing you should be watching is the MEMORY PRESSURE graph at the bottom of the Activity Monitor Memory tab. As long as it's green most of the time, you are in great shape RAM wise.

Interspaced between the five posts above I have twice said this thread is too old to be used as a basis for a new post. Please, at least scan through some of the replies to see if a new thread would be better. You have multiple problems with some of the worst offenders ... MacKeeper, Downlite, uTorrent, the list goes on. Please post a new thread with a similar question and people will advise the CURRENT best resolutions.

any help would be highly appreciated 🙂

This is the only problem I see with anything you have installed. No application should ever be crashing or hanging like this. Use the developers instructions for uninstalling uTorrent and never install it or anything like it again.

Almost everybody that uses BitTorrent software it is breaking the law, so it can get you in even more trouble than just having a slow MBP. I heard about a conviction in this area just last week.
