Where did the videos come from?
what are the details of the format?
from a dvd of a security camera. it seemed to play on a windows operating system. i made a copy of the dvd and trying to play on mac mini.
mpeg-4 is all i see.
- Will the copy play on the PC? Maybe it is copy protected if not.
- Try converting it to a compatible format with the free HandBrake program.
handbrake doesn't work. gives message: No Valid Source Found
Sounds like it is DRM protected.
so if i play the orginal dvd, it should work?
I do not understand what you mean.
Does the DVD play on the Mac
the original dvd played on the windows but the copy won't play on my mac.
VLC is the answer, ....... I dare say I dont know any Mac user that DOESNT have VLC installed

Its free.
nope. i have VLC. it plays but no video playing. it shows it's playing but no image. probably because I copied a dvd and it won't play a copy. i'll get the original dvd and try that.
i tried to play the original dvds and they won't play, either. ***?! they played on windows platform but not mac.
You said
from a dvd of a security camera
Assuming that means the a security system camera/system took the videos and recorded the DVD.
thus, it appears that the format is not compatible with the make. I would contact the manufacturer of the recording system/go to their support site.
it actually won't play on my windows computer either, afterall. the video files say they are .mp4s but won't play. i'll have the security people reburn a dvd. thanks
.
Have you tried to use iTunes to play the mp4s?
