10.4.7 and Palm Hot Sync

Reinstall the Palm software, or purchase the Missing Sync from MarkSpace.com.

I encountered the same problem with my T/X. If I restart my iMac and reset the PRAM (apple-option-P-R keys at startup) the USB sync will work....for a while. If I wait and try to re-sync after a few hours, the problem occurs again.

However, I have no problems syncing through bluetooth, so I think something has been done to the USB interface software in 10.4.7 that causes some kind of timeout or something.

It would be interesting to hear if the people at Apple have have a fix.

I used to be an "early adopter", but it was simply taking more and more time resolving strange (/somebody else's QA) issues, and so I gave up on this behaviour.

Nowadays, I wait for a while and only then install new software.
However, because of all kind of security issues, you have to install your OS updates quickly and there you have it!

Please Apple develop a Palm-like device quickly (and include a phone!) so that I am sure the combination of "stuff" I have is covered by your QA tests!

I'm willing to pay for it!

Though the Palm is still a great device, the software integration with the Mac is a problem that's getting worse year after year.

I upgraded to 10.4.7, and can't launch my Palm desktop. I get the following error message:

I/O Error - my only option is to click OK, when I do, I get the same error message with the same OK button - when I click it again, the app closes. I've tried to re-install the palm software that came with my Treo 700p - no help there.

Any suggestions?

i tried resetting the PRAM and also repairing permissions - neither helped.

i had the same problem. solved it by syncing via a built-in usb port.
for about a year i had my cradle plugged into a 3rd party usb pci card and my palm synced fine. since the 10.4.7 update my palm will only sync via the built-in usb ports. hope they'll fix that in one of the next updates.....

my problem is the Palm Desktop application won't launch completely - it starts, and you see the Palm logo, then a dialog box appears saying I/O error.

I'm afraid to try and sync with the Treo, because I might lose everything!

I have not had a problem with the Palm Desktop software at all. However, as I said above, I have had USB syncing issues. I jsut rebooted after repairing permissions, with my sync cable hooked up to a USB hub - - - it works (for now). I am giong to wait a few hours and try it again. If it fails, I will switch over to direct connect as has already been suggested.

Have you tried to reinstall Palm Desktop? Be sure to save your Palm data someplace else before reinstalling.

I've re-installed the software, and even went back one version (from Palm's website) that one wouldn't launch either. I'm back at version 4.2.2 (for Treo 700p Sprint). I vaguely remember having to remove or add something to a Library once before to get it working.

I guess I'll have to wait for the Apple store to open tomorrow.

Just for reference, I am running Palm Desktop 4.2.2 to sync with my T/X

iMac G4 1.25GHz Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Exact same problem here, ran 10.4.7 update, can't hotsync my treo 650 over USB (hub OR direct connection). I CAN sync by bluetooth but it is very slow. I will try the PRAM reset later today when I get home.

I'm posting here mostly to add to the list so that Apple doesn't blame this one on user error.

Just an update - zapping the PRAM did not help for me. I went through the cycle for three full power chimes at boot. What I wouldn't give for some way to roll back the update about now.

I had the same problem, but found an easy solution in my case. When I took a look at Hotsynch Setup under Palm Desktop I found that my Hotsynch had been reset from "enabled" to "disabled", evidently during the software update to 10.4.7. When I clicked the "enabled" button all was well, even without rebooting.
