Randomly Turns Off

My Macbook just randomly turns off sometimes without me doing anything. Then I'll try and boot it back up and it takes me pressing the button about 3 times for it to finally actually boot up. I have it connected to my power supply the whole time, so I'm positive that it's not a power issue. Any advice?

Macbook, Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I've had a (minor and probably short-lived) breakthrough. I found out pretty quickly that the longer I left my MacBook to rest, the longer it would stay 'on' afterwards. 20 minutes of downtime gave about 1 minute of life.

Concerned that I should try to keep it alive long enough to back-up my files, I left it alone for 24 hours before turning it on again. It started.... I burned a CD.... I bluetoothed about 11 or 12 files to my PC.... I checked in to Yahoo.... no problems. I used it for about half an hour before closing the lid and thus putting it to sleep. Now I hardly dare wake it up for fear of another shut-down!

yes i ran the dvd before i sent it in, they had me do
it over the phone.

But, I can't get you to answer, even in the other thread...did you do an extended looping test????

The short test is almost bogus. You need an extended test. Even a repeat. Then you need to remove components, as mentioned in the other thread, one at a time, and run the test again---extended.

You have got to keep milking with the test. This can take days. Typically, you do it overnight.

I bought my Macbook 2.0 GHz (white) back in May and it started randomly turning off near the end of June. I took it to the Apple Store for repair on July 8. It was sent to the repair depo on Jul 10. They are going to replace the logic board but it seems to be taking a really long time. I have been without a computer for almost 2 weeks now. I hope the new logic board fixes this problem. Has anyone with a logic board replacement on their Macbook had any problems?

Has anyone actually sent it in, gotten the logic board replaced, and had the random shut down problem fixed?

There are so many posts on here on how to fix the problem, or suggesting what is causing it, but the logic board seems to be the one thing most mentioned as the cause of the problem. Will someone who's had it replaced, PLEASE let us know if this did any good?

Thanks!

P.S. Yes, I am adding my Macbook to the VERY long list of ones that randomly shut down. I bought mine on June 3, from an Apple store near Dallas, Texas.

it seems this problem happened at the begining of july, maybe it's just because the weather is too hot. here it's 30° today and mine keeps crashing.

anyone in a cold environment ? i would have tried running my macbook in my fridge but it's too small and already full 🙂
anyone wants to try ?

I took my week 21 white MacBook 2.0 to the Apple Store for repair. It actually shut down while at the Apple Store after about a minute. It had been plugged in while off for almost 24 hours. According to the support site, the part is on order. I mentioned this thread to the Genuis guy and about the logic board. Hopefully, they replace it and problem will be solved. Will post when I get the MacBook back.
