Randomly Turns Off

My Macbook just randomly turns off sometimes without me doing anything. Then I'll try and boot it back up and it takes me pressing the button about 3 times for it to finally actually boot up. I have it connected to my power supply the whole time, so I'm positive that it's not a power issue. Any advice?

I talked to a repair technician today and he says that even if you get your logic board replaced, it's the same kind of logic board that is already in all Macbooks. Apple hasn't released a newer logic board since the release.

It's weird that some people get the graphical errors and some don't. I just have the shutdown issue. I SO much regret not keeping my old Powerbook 12".

I'm having the same problem. Like others have mentioned, it only happens when the CPU temp reaches about 173-174 degrees.

I called Apple Care, and described my problem in detail, making sure to mention the it only happened under heavy CPU load at a certain temp. The rep immediately said "Your CPU is running too hot. It has to be some sort of automatic shutoff to prevent damage." I was surprised that he acknowledged the problem. I don't have the time to send the unit in for repair, but if it fixes the issue it's the only choice I have. My work depends on being able to run at full CPU utilization...

Having such a major problem on a brand new, currently shipping model, is simply unacceptable. Apple, the backlash is just beginning.

This looks like a flawed digital sensor. Either
below 50C or higher than 65C, but some have shutoff
in between which may lead to other issues or flaws
within the design.

I have build 4H620 and have never had a shutdown yet with mine. I can stress both processors running them 100% using Terminal (yes > /dev/null) without a problem. Here are current readings after running 10 minutes. I've had cores up to 97C.

Yeah, my prediction is that this is time-related. There is a problem with ALL the motherboards that makes them sensitive to one or more conditions. When these operating conditions present themselves over several weeks, the board/sensor/whatever breaks and the shutdowns begin. At first there were mostly reports of early weeks 18-20, then the 21s showed up in force with a couple of 22s, then a few with 23s said they also had the problem, and now at least one 25. My replacement is a week 23, I will let this thread know if it starts going bad.

But I believe in the coming weeks we will hear similar reports from weeks 23-26. I hope not, but that's what I think is going to happen. I'm just crossing my fingers and hoping that my week 23 doesn't die, since we're moving to Bangladesh and I'll have a **** of a time getting any Apple tech support there. 😟

Same things is happening to me.

It's really *****, when it happens doing serious work or installing something. It's like going back to old classic or SE era when "System Error Occor!" massage has been appered. Any electric machine without having basic operation , "turn on", "turn off" is like serious junk. Apple must fully take care of this issue. I've been using mac more than 20 years, I might start dislike of Apple.

I've found something..

When it shuts down, I keep the power button pressed until a annoying beep occurs, after then I hear the mac booting sound, and after that the machine doesn't shutdown anymore..

I don't really know what that sounds mean, but I think I'm resetting something that was the problem.

I've to do this like every time I wake the machine, cause it shuts down very often. But after doing it, no more problems (until I close the lid and the loop starts again)..

Maybe someone can try if it works too so maybe we can find a clue.

(Hey, those who had the logic board replaced, can you confirm the problem is now solved? So we don't have to keep investigating it! Thanks)
