Randomly Turns Off

Mine too... Black macbook.. Same problems. Worked fine for several months and a couple of days ago it started... Calling Apple on monday. Really dont want to send it away....

Macfixit has an article which says the MacBook Pro also has faulty logic boards causing random shutdowns which are being replaced.

Add me to the list as well, I have a white MacBook for about a month now, and it just started shutting down randomly. It's a week 22 machine with 2GB RAM installed. It doesn't seem to be heat related because it will sometimes poweroff when it's completely cold.

I'm not going over all the symptoms or possible causes once more, because this thread already has everything in it. Just wanted to let Apple know they have a problem.

Add me to the list. I have 2GHz Week 19 Macbook. It purchased it on May 26th and it began randomly shutting down a little over a month ago.

How long did it take for Apple to repair your MacBook?

Reinstalling OS X won't do anything for this issue. You need to call them back and have it repaired.

Also, everyone with this issue, whether you're going to send it in or not should call AppleCare so atleast they're aware of how many users are affected so they do work on that fix that you're waiting for.

Mine too. 2 ghz white MacBook with 2GB of Transcend RAM. It worked fine up until about 3 days ago and now I can hardly keep it running long enough to write this. Tried swapping ram, resetting PMU, PRAM, re-seated the HD etc etc. Hopefully Apple will swap it out at an Apple store.

This is just incredible. Seriously, if you have this problem please call Apple Care and start a case number. Don't send your machine in unless they tell you:

1) This is a known issue and they are recalling units
2) They have the fix
3) They tell you what the fix is

Otherwise it's just a crap shoot. An earlier post suggested that they were "capturing" machines with this issue and that they know how to fix it. If that's true then they should release an official statement or at least instruct their techs that there is an issue.

Also, if anyone has sent their "CrashBooks" in for repair and it's come back 100% fixed can you please post here to let the rest of us know that it's ok.

Like so many of you, this machine is my livelyhood. I can't do anything meaningful on it because I will loose data. Not too mention that it's HORRIBLE for the hard drive to be shut off like that in the middle of writing data. It will damage the hard drive eventually. Maybe instead of a motion sensor that shuts the hard drive off just before impact on a drop they should have put a crash detector in it that shuts it off right before another MUCH-WORSE-THAN-ANY-PC-I'VE-EVER-USED crash.

Not cool Apple. Not cool. If this keeps up let's make a parody of their dorky ads and throw it up on utube and MySpace with the "cool guy" mac falling over constantly or something. Oh wait, none of us can keep our machines on long enough to make the edits...

(Oh and I had another crash last night showing a slide show in iPhoto to my family. Machine had been off for the three hour car ride home. Was on for 15 mintues. Boom)

It's been buried by well meaning people who are concerned that the people digging this are kooks with an axe to grind. Let's show them that we are seriously concerned about what we know should be an excellent product from Apple!

I didn't think it would help but I want to follow the steps that they asked me to follow so that I don't have to argue too much with them.

I have found that no matter how much you say "it won't work, just look at the forum" it doesn't matter.

Heck, the support person I talked to even tried to convince me that it is normal for these new Mac's to shut-off from time to time but its all worth it because Apple's are so much better than normal PC's.

I have one week 20 Macbook ,after 10.4.7 update i started to shutdown (error 82), frequently, After some days i installed 10.4.7 intel combo (133 mb) and it has not crashed since, thats more than one week ago. ?!?

You're absolutely right. This MacBook has been the absolutely worst computer experience, much worse than any PC I've ever had. And that's saying something!

I have the problem too on my white 2GHz Macbook. So I read this forum, and the many posts about week xx. So I go to check my serial number to see what week I am and here is my info:

And I notice NO rhyme or reason to this no matter how much I observe. I am half prepared to say that it happens to me only when using AC power. I just booted from a cold boot, no AC power and its fine so far. But who knows.

I have an Applecare case number. Same story as you all... resets that didn't work etc.

Oh and I have to also help blow the 10.4.7 theory out of the water. I am running System Version: Mac OS X 10.4.6 (8I2025)

But week 61??? Nope, can't be, obviously. But that is my serial number. Weird.

Do you know a site where I can go to and send my MacBook in and they will fix it and mail it back, I live too far to drive to the nearest Apple store

No, you just don't know what you're talking about, you have a week 19 mac.
