Randomly Turns Off

My Macbook just randomly turns off sometimes without me doing anything. Then I'll try and boot it back up and it takes me pressing the button about 3 times for it to finally actually boot up. I have it connected to my power supply the whole time, so I'm positive that it's not a power issue. Any advice?

To give an update on my situation guys. I sent my MacBook for repairs on this issue, and after two weeks and a logic board replacement later, Apple sent back my MacBook to the Apple Store with a note that they were unable to resolve the issue and a recommendation to replace my MacBook with a new one.

So today I got a new MacBook, and with it hopefully no more random shutdowns. It only took about a month and a half of trips to the Apple Store, and two repair tickets.

"All....please make sure you do call Apple within 90 days of purchase or you will be charged for the support call. You only get one free call within the 1st 90 days of purchase."

Not trying to be difficult, but I think you're mistaken on this point. iPods get one incident report that has to be used within 90 days of purchase. However, computer owners get free phone support (unlimited) for 90 days.

anyone smarter than me want to give it a try and post
what happens?

You can give it a try and trash them. It won't hurt anything. They will rebuild themselves. I doubt it will help any though. This shutdown issue is hardware related in my opinion--specifically, defective solder-related connection problems on the logic board.

Product specialist told me only one free incident. Just going by what they told me.

feebeez, you can call an unlimited number of times in the first 90-days. He probably wanted to sell you an AppleCare plan. Next time they tell you that, tell them you want to speak to their superior.

I did ask for supervisor, they said they are the final say. They being the product specialists. Then they hung up on me 🙂

I am still a die hard Mac user despite this experience. Prior to this MacBook I have had and still have Macs that never die. I guess this is why I am so disappointed right now.

I am going to have my MacBook fixed and will sell it once it is good to go. Decided to pay a bit more for MacBook Pro and one is on the way, maybe they have the bugs worked out of those. Crossing my fingers...

I purchased my Black Macbook in late May, and as of July 22nd it has had this problem.

It does not occur at high temperatures, and typically occurs when surfing the web. I'm using 10.4.7.

I have noticed some odd behavior since the problem began. First, I have Bootcamp installed on a 20 GB partition and I noticed that it appears to be mounting much slower on startup when booting to OS 10.4.7. I have only tried booting into XP once since the problem began and after the Windows XP loading screen it immediately shutdown. I will see if booting into XP consistently repeats this problem. I haven't noticed any other changes other than the slower mounting of my XP partition and the shutdown on XP boot.

I haven't yet had any trouble rebooting after the random shutdowns.

This problem is ridiculous.

Unfortunately the AMEX 90-day product protection is just for theft and vandalism and specifically excludes manufacturer defects.

I bought mine on my AmEx card for the extra year warranty they offer through their Buyer Protection. Not sure it was worth it though; the computer purchase made my monthly bill much higher than normal and now they keep wanting to paid before the due date because I've gone outside my normal spending pattern.

Hello,

I also had the same problem.
I receive today my Macbook from the AppleCare
After 1 hour of use it seems to be working now fine

But I don't understand why they changed the top case
Now I have a QWERTY keyboard instead of an AZERTY (french)

I phone them for the keyboard problem but they refuse to say me (or didn't know) what the shutoff problem was...

They only said me that they didn't changed any hardware for the shutoff problem !!!

I hope that the shutoff problem is really solved... I also would like to know what is really the problem

I need to send again to AppleCare my MacBook ;-( (for the keyboard)

Regards
