I didn't think you could bend an iphone. Or is "bend" not the right word?

I've actually heard of this issue. Take it to an Apple Store and see what they say.
Nothing bends without an external force being applied. As Frank say, take it to Apple. Also take some money to pay for an out of warranty replacement.

In case you didn't notice, this thread is almost a year old. I would hope they had their problem solved last year.
Things bend and warp all the time without external force being applied to them. I guess you have never purchased wood before. Heat from the battery charging may cause the iPhone to bend.

"External force" doesn't mean "on the outside of the phone". It means force that originates from a source other than the thing being bent.
I'm guessing you don't know too much about materials science. Wood warps when it dries. See this:

And a swelling battery definitely applies force, albeit slowly, to an iPhone. The force is certainly external to the frame components
