iPhone 5 battery drops to 20% from around 40% suddenly

My iPhone 5, with iOS 7, now has some battery issues. All of a sudden, its battery percentage can drop from around 40% to 20% and pops up the Low Battery notification.

Then I connected the phone to its charger, and in a very short time, maybe 30s, the battery is back to 43%! Isn't this magic? LOL.

Apple supporters, could you either provide solutions or explanations? I think this is to do with the SW?

Best regards,

Leo

This happens to me as well. My iPhone 5 dropped from 100% to 24% within a matter of 5 seconds. Then, 2 seconds later, it died. The charging is a challenge too. When it died, I plugged it in for 45 minutes and it finally went to 1%. ON the other hand, the other day when it was at 18% it jumped to 84%! My point is, the battery is crap. Just crap. And I think I may know why. If you would like some VERY helpful pointers on how to save battery life, go to the link, http://www.tinyurl.com/lksjxnb (the 'I' can be a i or L). This amazing website tells you all you need to know to go through the whole day without having to charge your phone. :-)

I have the exact problem since my iPhone 4.
When I purchased my iPhone 5, I thought Apple cound finally get rid of that annoying problem.

It is quite susprising to see that Apple still brings that problem to iPhone 5.

What Apple Care Service was told me that it's nothing to do with the software.

She said that she saw the issue at my battery (hardware) and suggested me to replace my iPhone at local Apple Service Centre.

😟

i got he same issue, it was 68% when I got face time call, cannot pick it as it show me battery drained. put tp charge and show 68% again. I had a chat with vable off and battery draint to 2% in 3 minutes. Is apple going to resolve this issue of the $700 thing turn to be a **** piece of Apple. No trust on Apple any more. Will not purchase any Apple product. I am trying restore and see if it works.

Just got my battery replaced, but the issue with drainage was still going on... The new battery drained in 7 hours in idle and later the phone didn't accept charge, took it back to a Genius Bar and I was told a piece was lose, brought it back to my place, the phone doesn't charge. I'm going back today ... Hopefully they can fix what they have done, before short lasting battery, now it doesn't work due to no charge.

Hi,

I've been dealing with these issue for a little while now, i tried almost everything in this thread:

I drained my battery all the way ( even tho sometimes it shut down when it was in 10%)

I've made the charge-discharge weekly cycles where you drain the whole battery once but the other days you keep it over 50%)

Restored the iphone in itunes..

Nothing seemed to work.. i was about to go and get a new battery but then i read a post where the issue seemed to be software after the ios7 update... so i dont know why.. but i thought that maybe the jumps where ocurring because of some software fault on the numbers on the battery meter... lets say whenever your phone reached X number because of the software problem it dropped down to 20% or what not..

So just for fun i tried fully charging the fun i went to

GENERAL--> USAGE -->> Battery Percentage and turned off the battery percentage number display in the iphone .

I dont know if its mentally better.. or actually better.. but in my case, the sudden drops are over.

I wish someone would tried it and tell me if this actually helps..

gkprabhakar: "... the 4G battery consumption is just crazy, sometimes I can run out of 30-40% charge by using 4G in 15 minutes."

This is not normal if your battery is in proper working order.

My daughter had the same issues for the past month with her iPhone5. I had her try all the things I mentioned in my above post, with no luck. Went to Apple and her battery was also in the red.

I'd say if you're having these problems to try cycling the battery and do an iOS restore as the Apple support page suggests (https://getsupport.apple.com/Issues.action). If that does not work and you live close to an Apple store, just make an appointment, chances are your battery needs replacing.
