macbook air 2013 a1466 ssd drive to usb or sata adapter?

As far as I can tell, there is no SATA adapter so far only PCI-e to plug into an expansion slot on a desktop motherboard or a USB 3.0 case. below is a link to one I found that was just released for the late 2013-current MacBook models.

Hi all. I may be a bit late to this thread but it is one of the first that popped up when searching for a solution. Hopefully my experience can help.

My daughter's mid 2013 Macbook Air died. Apple store made no guarantees that any data could be saved IF she decided to send it in for repair for $300.00-$800.00. They also discouraged trying to retrieve the data because it is "not possible"

A USB solution would be the most convenient but USB readers are rare. OWC has one but it's way expensive and a lot of people can't seem to get it to work.

I bought this card on eBay for $8.50 and it worked perfectly in a PC running MacOS (Sorry Apple) Gigabyte Z68 Motherboard

It took couple of weeks to receive the card

I would imagine it would work the same in a Mac Pro with a free PCIE slot OR a a PC running Linux which can read the Mac file system

Now that the data is safe, time to go back to the Apple store to try to get a firm quote on the repair & decide if it is worth it...

Is this question solved?? It looks like solved but teh author sais that adapter is not suitable for his drive 😟

I am also looking for adapter to use with Macbook Air 13 Mid 2013 and using new type SSD pictured in the post above.

Even OWC doesnt have SSD for last years 2013 Macbook Air models.....

Can anyone confirm which adapter should be right??

On the description it sais 2010/2011. I think I actually have adapter like that and I will open it later but I am 99% sure that 2010/2011 Macbook Air SSD was completely different than 2013 SSD pictured above.

I had a similar incident with my mid 2013 macbook air. Need to pull out the SSD, but to date havent found any 3rd party enclosures or adapters for the new PCIe interface. Daluder or Michal9 could you confirm if this product is correct and allowed you to pull the data off?

I also have a 13" mid-2013 MacBook Air with 128 GB, that drowned. Apple Store quoted $799 to replace water damaged parts. Instead, I bought a new 13" early-2014 MacBook Air with 256 GB. I asked them to try to transfer the date from the 2013 to the 2014. They said they didn't have the correct "sled". They left the memory card out for me.

For those of us who are technically challenged:

My question is: Will the 2013-2014 MacBook Pro +Air SSD to PCI-e 4X adapter card, that you list above, work for this? If yes, how do I use it (there do not appear to be any instructions on the website)? Where do I plug the PCIe SSD card in? Where do I plug the adapter card in?

I am feeling very stupid tonight.

To clarify: This is the SSD??????

1. I remove the SSD from the interior of the 2014 MacBook Air.

2. I insert the 2013 SSD into the interior of the 2014 MacBook Air (and pray it works).

3. I close up the 2014 Macbook and transfer the 2013 data to the desktop.

4. I remove the 2013 SSD from the interior of the 2014 MacBook Air.

5. I insert the PCI-e 4X,8X,16X slot

into the 2014 SSD slot???? or somewhere else???? This is where I get lost!

yes, it is just the SSD.

Steps are as following if you want to confirm your SSD good working first:

1. remove the SSD from the interior of the 2014 MacBook Air.

2. insert the 2013 SSD into the interior of the 2014 MacBook Air to see if it works well

3.emove the 2013 SSD from the interior of the 2014 MacBook Air if it is good working

4.insert the PCI-e 4X or 8X or16X slot of your desktop (normaly desktop has PCI-e 1X and 16X slot,it can work on PCI-e 16X slot), and transfer the 2013 data to the desktop.

5. transfer the 2013 data to your 2014 macbook Air from desktop with some external HDD or USB disk.

if you are sure that your 2013 SSD is good working,then you can skip Step 1,2,3 .

I have been following the links about reading macbook air ssd. I like to ask, once i am able to connect my SSD to a USB converter, what will happen when I plug it into another computer, will it ask for password? I like to know before I try plugging it into another computer.
