Calendar in iOS 7 is aweful. I know no one who likes it. Is there any way to get the old calendar function back as an option?

Well, I didn't feel that strongly about the old one, mostly because I never looked at it. 😉

That never did anything for me, either. And the repeat function was (and is still) weak.

Shortly after iOS 6 was released (and herds of people were asking how to go back to iOS 5) I believe MacLife did a comparison of about 7 calendar apps including the iCal app. Guess which one finished last?

As with the Mac OS, the built in apps are basic. I don't use most of them. It makes sense to me. Why would Apple spend lots of development resourses on the included apps when they'll never please everyone and there are so many other options out there?

There are so many really cool calendar apps out there. I always have trouble settling on just one. I was really liking Cue but, Apple bought the service. I'm looking foward to seeing what, if anything, they do with it.
