Ipad turns on and off in a loop during charging, and won't turn on at all off charge?

My Ipad has been in a constant loop of turning on and off on charge for the past few hours, I really don't know what to do. I've had a few charging problems before (taking forever to charge, the computer not recognising it, saying "Not charging" for numerous wall chargers and generally messing up.) But today it won't turn on at all. I've got through at least ten chargers over the months, and I've had this Ipad since Christmas, so not even a year.

Basically, when it's charging (I've tried wall and desktop computer.) it shows the Apple logo, then boots up, shows the lock screen for a second, then dies, then repeats this process over and over until I take it out, then it does the "No battery" sign.

I updated to IOS7 a while ago too, about a week after IOS7 came out. Please help?

Thanks,

Georgia.

Ok, after having my ipad 2 3rd Generation for about a year, its bombed out on me, similar problem, playing on it until battery died. Didn’t think anything of it, plugged into charge thinking it would be charged by the morning. This didn’t happen.

It was stuck on the apple sign, booted to home screen and switched off again due to low battery. Continued on this loop for the whole day……

I searched the internet and it seemed all doom and gloom that I would need to by another one. Then I stumbled upon a forum where the advice so far has worked for me.

The reason why it gets stuck in a loop is because the IPad was not shut down so therefore keeps trying to boot up soon as it has some battery power. Problem is, its gone beyond a point and now there isn’t enough battery life to boot to main or home screen after apple logo.

The remedy is quiet simple, follow these steps to get the ipad to home screen to power it down so it has sufficient time to charge up and boot normally and get off the endless loop.

  1. Plug into wall socket to get it charging.
  2. Wait until the apple logo appears
  3. QUICKLY hold down home button and reset/ sleep button at the same time until it reboots.
  4. Release buttons now.
  5. Repeat step 3 for at least 30 to 40 times which is about 10 minutes in duration everytime you see the logo on the screen.
  6. Now Let IPad boot up fully, should see home screen with about 2% battery life
  7. QUICKLY hit the rest/ sleep button down for about 2 to 5 seconds.
  8. Swipe the screen to when slider appears to switch off the ipad.
  9. This will power down the IPad which now will not reboot by itself so it can now charge without any interruption’s.
  10. Allow battery to charge for a least an hour or two without trying to put it on.
  11. Switch the IPad on
  12. You should now have about 10 to 20% battery Life
  13. Power it down again by holding the reset/ Sleep button down again and swipe the screen to power down, let it charge fully to 100% now which will take few hours
  14. Enjoy your IPad again 🙂 🙂

Lesson learnt. When your battery power is low, dont wait for it drain completely, rather power the pad down and let it charge when there is only about 2 to 4% battery life left.

Hope this guide helps people with the same problem as I had. Took me about 2 days of research and searching until I found a solution that worked.

Cheers,

I've also made an account just to say thank you to wildchild

For anyone who has this problem do follow through with WildChild's solution

at first i didn't think it was going to work for me so i was looking for other solutions but at the same time carrying on with WildChild's solution while i was looking, at first the apple logo would come on every say 2/3 minutes.. i noticed it started appearing quicker, like every 10 seconds, then it logo appeard before i even had time to go to the otherside of the room so i left it to see if would comeo n and it did.. it was at 1% and i was able to swipe the screen and turn it off.. so now i will let it charge for awhile and remember not to let it go so low again..

Thanks

The sole reason I created this account was to just say thank you WildChild7778. After a day and a half of despair thinking that I would have to say goodbye to my iPad and all the important data on it I found your answer and it actually worked. Also lesson learnt never let the battery go so low again. So to anybody thinking that it's all over try WildChild's method before giving up hope.

I'm not sure why there are so many steps to the original solution. The solution I have for my iPad is simple. My problem seemed to be caused by using my laptop to charge. So when the loop occurs:

1) unplug it from your laptop

2) wait and let it power down, the looping should stop at some point when the battery is drained (You can try an power it on and it should tell you to plug it in)

3) plug your charger into a WALL SOCKET.

The iPad should power up normally and start charging.

Have you ever notice the iPad turns itself off and goes to "no battery" mode before it even reaches 0%? I've noticed this with my iPad, it shuts off at around 20% and I never get the 5% warning. Sometimes this is caused by the battery display calibration error.

Either way, the one thing I could think of is maybe leave the iPad for awhile to try and drain the battery completely. Maybe for a day? And try plugging it into a wall socket and see what happens? If it does work leave your iPad charging until 100%. This action will reset the battery calibration (if that is the cause of the problem)

None of the solutions here seem to be working for me. i have iPad air (first generation) slightly more than a year old (conveniently just out of warranty)

for the last few weeks or so, I've been having trouble charging the iPad. sometimes it would charge normally, other times you would plug it in and it would show that it wasn't. I tested with different power supplies, cables, and outlets, so i know they weren't the issue. The only way i was able to get it charging again (and it was trial and error, no one way always worked reliably) was by, switching from the outlet to my computers USB port, (and then sometimes back again to the charger when that didn't work), and rebooting and then switching outlet. But it was very random.

At no point did I ever let the battery run all the way down... However, this morning it did before i realized and the iPad automatically powered down, and now I cannot get it to start without powering down again. Whether plugged into an outlet or my USB port, I am stuck in a 'loop' - where i reboot the iPad (which used to work), it goes to the bright apple screen, then starts up to the home screen and shows 1% charge in the upper right - but doesn't indicate that its charging. Then i immediately get a message of "Low battery - 5% of battery remaining". Then the iPad automatically powers down after 30 seconds or so (or as soon as i try to do something with it). I get the screen showing the big battery with a little red, but it never charges to the point where it reboots on its own. Then i reboot myself, and the cycle starts all over again.

I have tried the suggested method here of "repeatedly rebooting" until i get a higher percentage of battery charge showing -- which hast worked so far. But even if i did, how do i get the thing to start charging normally? It doesn't charge when its plugged in... ??

I tried this method and then after being unsuccessful, i got really frustrated and just left it unplugged over night. Someone suggested trying it 100x as 30-40 wasn't enough for them so I thought I'd give it a go in the morning when i woke up. I plugged it in after it being off and unplugged all night, and left it alone for a few hours. It is charging now and not looping anymore.

i have tried that method 60x and left it to charge and it got to 98% after 2hrs when i checked. i plugged it back and it displayed 93% before i shut it down to see if it would get to 100%. anyone having this problem too? seems it doesn't charge when turned off normal.

I need to add that the main problem is that it refuses to charge when turned off! why?

Thank you very much. Your response helped. My problem was, ipad2 was cycling between Apple logo & black screen/"no battery" sign. It was not charging, nor was it switching on/off or getting a hard resetted. This happened after it went off when battery was around 12%.

I did your steps 3-5 after plugging to wall socket, but the home screen appears only very briefly & not enough time even to press reset button. It kept going back to cycling. Kept doing steps 3-5 several times & then finally "no battery" sign appeared & stayed on.

Kept plugged on for charging overnight & it's back!!

thank you once again.

Hey! Mine kept on cycling between Apple logo, black screen, and no battery sign as well! Then the home screen appears then quickly reboots. When you charged yours, did you charge it like that? 🙂 I have school tomorrow so I have to sleep early and I can't do the manual process tonight. I already plugged in my iPad now and it's still on the AL/BS/NBS cycle. I hope it would charge!

And thanks to WildChild!!! I followed your steps and just like everybody else, I had to make an account here to thank you!!!

Hey! My iPad finally charged! Thank God! I switched it on after following WildChild's procedure and it reached 16% of battery life and that's already freaking amazing! Now I do not have to worry about going over the steps again (I think)!

I came back to say thank you and God bless you all especially WildChild. I know I may be overreacting but no one can blame me! My iPad was dead - literally dead for 48 hours!!! I can finally use it again now without having to worry about losing all my important files! Yeah, it took a lot of patience (and two episodes of Case Closed and another two episodes of Adventure Time), but it was all worth it!!!

Moral of the story: DO NOT FORGET TO CHARGE YOUR IPAD!

Ipad turns on and off in a loop during charging, and won't turn on at all off charge?
