Ipad turns on and off in a loop during charging, and won't turn on at all off charge?

My Ipad has been in a constant loop of turning on and off on charge for the past few hours, I really don't know what to do. I've had a few charging problems before (taking forever to charge, the computer not recognising it, saying "Not charging" for numerous wall chargers and generally messing up.) But today it won't turn on at all. I've got through at least ten chargers over the months, and I've had this Ipad since Christmas, so not even a year.

Basically, when it's charging (I've tried wall and desktop computer.) it shows the Apple logo, then boots up, shows the lock screen for a second, then dies, then repeats this process over and over until I take it out, then it does the "No battery" sign.

I updated to IOS7 a while ago too, about a week after IOS7 came out. Please help?

Thanks,

Georgia.

Ok, after having my ipad 2 3rd Generation for about a year, its bombed out on me, similar problem, playing on it until battery died. Didn’t think anything of it, plugged into charge thinking it would be charged by the morning. This didn’t happen.

It was stuck on the apple sign, booted to home screen and switched off again due to low battery. Continued on this loop for the whole day……

I searched the internet and it seemed all doom and gloom that I would need to by another one. Then I stumbled upon a forum where the advice so far has worked for me.

The reason why it gets stuck in a loop is because the IPad was not shut down so therefore keeps trying to boot up soon as it has some battery power. Problem is, its gone beyond a point and now there isn’t enough battery life to boot to main or home screen after apple logo.

The remedy is quiet simple, follow these steps to get the ipad to home screen to power it down so it has sufficient time to charge up and boot normally and get off the endless loop.

  1. Plug into wall socket to get it charging.
  2. Wait until the apple logo appears
  3. QUICKLY hold down home button and reset/ sleep button at the same time until it reboots.
  4. Release buttons now.
  5. Repeat step 3 for at least 30 to 40 times which is about 10 minutes in duration everytime you see the logo on the screen.
  6. Now Let IPad boot up fully, should see home screen with about 2% battery life
  7. QUICKLY hit the rest/ sleep button down for about 2 to 5 seconds.
  8. Swipe the screen to when slider appears to switch off the ipad.
  9. This will power down the IPad which now will not reboot by itself so it can now charge without any interruption’s.
  10. Allow battery to charge for a least an hour or two without trying to put it on.
  11. Switch the IPad on
  12. You should now have about 10 to 20% battery Life
  13. Power it down again by holding the reset/ Sleep button down again and swipe the screen to power down, let it charge fully to 100% now which will take few hours
  14. Enjoy your IPad again 🙂 🙂

Lesson learnt. When your battery power is low, dont wait for it drain completely, rather power the pad down and let it charge when there is only about 2 to 4% battery life left.

Hope this guide helps people with the same problem as I had. Took me about 2 days of research and searching until I found a solution that worked.

replying to my own post, i have found that turning it back on after an hour (10-20% step) made it drain the battery to 0 again, and force a loop even after i turned it off again, i found that after the first slide off (holding lock button after rebooting 30-40 times) let it charge over night after this step. that worked for me, i hope this helps

Amazing! I called Apple with my problem and they told me I have to change the battery which costs $99. Gave Wildchild's recommendation a try and after maybe an hour and a half of doing Step 3, I had 3% and just barely enough time to power down. And now it's been an hour of it being off and I tried turning it on and it's working at 17% so far! No more loop!!

Thanks for the tip! And if it doesn't work for some people, just keep doing Step 3 for as long as physically possible.. For me it was about 1.5 hours!

My daughter is autistic the ipad stuck in the boot loop of dooms was hers and I can not tell you how beyond grateful I am to you for being able to find this. I am also surprised by Apple. I love Apple, they make great products but so many people have had problems with this and their own battery life encourages letting the battery completely discharge once a month . Yet they have not addressed this issue. I am disappointed in this. I own the latest ipad mini, three ipods , three iphones and and an ipad 4, add into thr mac book pro and desktop. I worry every device will go through this and with kids try telling them not to drin a battery! Either way i am beyind grateful to you and to anyone reading this , it does work but it takes ages ! Almost an hr doing this and finally I got it switched off and workign this morning 😀 To anyone going through the process this is how it worked for me , everytime the battery bar came up and then through to the apple logo i reset on the apple logo and then it at times got to the point where the apple logo would come up again as soon as reset , sometimes this makes you think it is ready ( and i think this is the mistake that makes it take so long ) so you think ok it has charge but it doesnt! Took me ages to realise that sometimes after the reset it went to the battery bar and other times back to the apple logo , but if i tried then I lost whatever charge i had worked for. For me i had to do this reset process for almost an hr and I have read others have needed to do it that long too. Get comfy , watch your shows ( whatever lol ) it goes faster and then you have an idea of how long you have been doing for . Resist tempation to " check " if there is battery eary because you start again and this is where frustration , mabe tears and curse words enter but you will get there.

I tried everything then this!!!! TRY THIS!!! Okay, so I solved this myself. I tried everything here and none of it worked for me. My iPad was doing the reboot loop and had only 1%. I did the quick resetting at the Apple icon 30, 40 and even more than 100 times in a row and nothing. It never even got to 2% this way. I tried to connect to iTunes when I would get the iTunes symbol occasionally, nothing. I took it to the Genius Bar where they told me I needed a new one. They were wrong. I'm on it now it works great now!! I didn't lose ANYTHiNG. iPad is just as it was Before.

Here's what I did.

I Put the iPad in DFU mode. Here is a video which shows very well how to out it in and out of this mode. the video is showing an iPhone but it works the same for iPad. Please note that I did NOT plug it into the computer when I did it. It was plugged into a wall socket. http://youtu.be/U_dbzL0EHWE Ok, so when you see the Apple during reboot hold on/off button and home button together for EXACTlY 10 seconds, the Apple will turn off then release only the on/off button. Continue holding the home button. It will stay black now. This is a good thing. Finally, right? Now your iPad is in DFU mode. The first time I did this I was so jhappy and nervous. Happy because it stopped the annoying cycle finally. Nervous because I was afraid my iPad wouldn't start up or that I would lose everything. I figured it would charge up finally. Well not exactly. I was impatient and waited only an hour to turn it on. This is how you turn it on. Hold both the on/off button and home button until the Apple lights up again. Then release. It takes a little longer than usual but it will come on and you won't lose data. However after one hour of being plugged in this way it only charged to 2%. So It stayed on the home screen for only a fraction of a second more than it did before. Still not long enough to turn it off and put in charge Mode. So, I did it again and this time waited all night, about 12 hours. Then turned it on again using both buttons as I just described. And yay, it was up to 7%!!, I turned it off and charged that sucker up to 100% so, the thing about DFU mode is it charges EXTREMELY slow. But if you're patient it may work for you. Then you can charge it normally after you see your home screen for more that a millisecond! Good luck! Just wanted to share another solution in cask you weren't having any luck with these like me. 🙂

Ipad turns on and off in a loop during charging, and won't turn on at all off charge?
