I have been trying to sort out an issue I have been having with some of my itunes not playing. Has any one else with Nero had this issue?

I recently had to move my iTunes library from old computer to new one but have a problem. I used Nero backup to create a 3.5GB DVD copy of all my tunes. However, on the new computer, having installed iTunes from the iPod CD and restored all my tunes via the Nero restore, I can see them on the new hard drive (via Explore)but can't get them into my iTunes Library. When changing the iTunes preferences to point to the directory containing the restored files, they don't appear.

I have even tried to connect my iPod whilst in the Preferences window and successfully copied all the music from the iPod into another directory, removed the Hidden attributes but again iTunes can't see the music.

So I have the situation where I have 2 copies of my tunes on my new hard disk but can't get them imported to my iTunes Library.

I am reluctant to attach my iPod as I fear it will remove everthing from it.

Any suggestions?

The default configuration for iTunes (for Windows) is to store BOTH the catalogue iTunes uses and the actual music in

C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\

The catalogue is contained in the following files (in the above directory)

iTunes Library.itl
iTunes Music Library.xml

The actual music would then be in a further sub-directory (in the above directory) called

iTunes Music

It is possible to tell iTunes to look for or store music in a DIFFERENT location (in my own case I use E:\Music\iTunes). However the catalogue will ALWAYS still be in the original location (on drive C as above).

Therefore if you have chosen to store your music in a non-standard location you must not only restore the music to that non-standard location but you must also restore the catalogue to the standard location.

Based on your description of your problem, it could be you have restored the iTunes Music folder but not the catalogue.

If you have lost the catalogue then what you need to do is to tell iTunes to add all the music, it will then add them back to the current [empty] catalogue.
