Numbers Fill Down Scrolling Slow in Numbers

Hi,

Compared to OpenOffice, Scrolling in Numbers is painfull Slow when Fill Down is selected.

Numbers seems to be the only app affected.

Is there a way of speeding up this Magic Mouse Scrolling?

One of the reason for this slowdown is that Numbers recalculates the whole table when any change is made to the table. Filling a formula into a new row is a change to the table.

If you are filling into several cells, you will find it quicker to:

Enter the formula into the top cell of the column to be filled. Copy.

Select all cells to receive the formula (including the one where it has been entered)

Paste.

OR

Enter the formula in the top cell.

Select all cells to receive the fomrula (including the top cell).

Go Insert > Fill > Fill Down.

Hi Barry,

Many thanks for your rapid response.

It appears that the faster OpenOffice scrolling speed is because it does not recalculate when Fill Down is selected?

I've used a similar method, select top Formula Cell, use Keyboard End ↘>then Shift Click, go Insert>Fill>Fill Down.

A heck of a lot faster than using the Cell Handle to Fill Down, my Spreadsheets go way back to 2003, quite a lot of rows.
