Best lap desk/cooler?

I will be going on several car trips this summer and also plan to use my MBP on my lap in bed, on a sofa, etc. Does anyone have any good experience with a lap desk with/without fans? I am looking for one with a place to use an external mouse as well. Thank you very much in advance...it is greatly appreciated.

You can find a lot of them here.

I bought this EZ Laptop Riser for my MacBook. Works great on your lap. It's well built, keeps your lap cool and helps dissipates some of the MacBook's heat.

There are several owners’ who have posted favorable results with iLap stand despite the cost. Of course, there are other choices to include the one already posted. Personally, for home use, I’m looking at the iLap as well.

There is much argument over whether the MacBook is a notebook or a laptop. Whichever, it does run a bit hot on one's lap. In my view, portability is the great advantage of a notebook/laptop over a desktop and I want mine to be easily-transportable. Having to plug a laptop cooler with fans into the wall, or even to a USB port, for comfortable use renders it less so. I recommend the APC Ergonomic Mobile Cooling Platform, model EMCP, sold at CompUSA for $34.99. It keeps legs and computer cooler. Its dimensions are near-perfect for the MacBook. Non-slip rubber pads on the surface hold the computer securely and allow air to circulate between computer and platform. There is a fold-out mouse pad which works great with an Apple Bluetooth wireless mouse. It also has retractable legs for use on a desk. It is very light and will fit into most computer bags. I can't think how it could be any better.

I don't really know...they're not the most mainstream of products. What I will say is go with one that's made out of aluminum and has some built in fans. The aluminum, as opposed to plastic, will make act like an added heat sink to provide extra cooling. The fans, which are powered through the use of one of your USB ports, do the same thing: provide extra cooling capacity. The fans might drain your battery a little faster, but they shouldn't have too much of an impact; they typically only draw a watt or two.

There's tons of them out there, but here are two that I found (with reviews) that may or may not be of interest.

I found the easiest out of the box lap/ bed/desk solution for the MBP to be in the box in which the MacBook Pro is packed. The top thermocol sheet that covers the MBP in the box is an excellent, light and ventilated board that can be used to keep the MBP cool and if you are concerned about the cpu temperature, install the folowing:

and from preferences menu of this CoreDuo temp utility, choose to display the temp on the top bar.
