As far as I know you can delete them one at a time, you just can't mass delete. Go into the contact, tap edit, scroll down and you can delete it.
For a contact you wish to delete touch Edit and then scroll the content of the contact all the way to the bottom where you will find a "Delete Contact". Touch that to delete the contact.
It does not say anywhere "delete contact"
That would be great if it actually worked that way.
Are you certain your scrolled *all the way down to the bottom of the screen* in edit contact mode?
It's there, down at the bottom of each contact. Unless restrictions are enabled and changes to contacts have been locked out.
Go into settings, general and restrictions. If theyre enabled you'll have to enter the 4 digit code and then down to 'allow changes' and 'account' and see if you are not allowed to add or remove contacts.
I have checked the settings....not the problem....I finally got it to say one time delete contact... but it did not delete....I have scrolled my life away at the bottom of the screen....and still have contacts I never authorized
Try the following free app call My Contacts Backup (search the App Store)
It will gather your contacts, put them into either vCard format or CSV format. It will then allow you to email the vCard or CSV file to yourself.
After doing so, the app also has the ability to "Remove all contacts" from the device. This is accessible from the main screen, pressing the Settings button on the lower-right, then scrolling down to the "Remove all contacts" button (be sure you're ready to do this).
I've used this feature before in the past and it worked great. Restoring your contacts is easy...just open the email that you sent to yourself and tap on the attachment.
Try it out...first backup your contacts with the app and email them to yourself, delete all contacts using the app, then restore them with the app. It may resolve your issue and knock your contacts list back into shape. If not, it should at least wipe out all your contacts and start over again.
EDIT: If you need to, you can also use some type of contacts/vCard/CSV editor to be used with your PC (search for one on Google) to manually go into the vCard or CSV file and manually remove the unwanted contact(s).
That won't work either.....it says this app cannot access your contacts you can enable access in your privacy setting....checked my privacy settings for the billionth time and it is allowed to make changes....this is ticking me off majorly
All I can think of at this point is to make note of all of your settings (for easier input after the reset), then go to Settings>General>Reset All Settings.
Something clearly seems to be "stuck"
Another thing to try before doing the above (it may not work but at least try it) is to reset the device:
Device Reset (won't affect settings/data/music/apps/etc)
1. Press and hold (& continue to hold) BOTH the Sleep/Wake button & the Home button.
2. Continue to hold BOTH (ignoring any other messages that may show) until you see the Apple logo on the screen.
3. Release BOTH buttons when you see the Apple logo and allow the device to boot normally.
EDIT: Another thing to try (for the sake of being redundant) is to fully disable restrictions...turn the whole thing off.
Have you tried restarting or resetting your iPad?
Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after the iPad shuts down, then press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10 seconds).
If these don't solve the problem try Settings > General > Reset > Reset all settings
If all else fails restore the software on your iPad.
I am going to have to take it somewhere. I have done everything y'all have said numerous times and nothing is working as it should to fix this problem...is there a phone number to ask apple directly how to fix this issue?
All Apple will probably tell you to do is to restore the iPad, in this case, preferrably as new *but make a backup first*. Then restore the iPad as new. You can then enter one or two contacts manually, then see if you still have the problem (you likely will not). Now try to restore the contacts using the app I mentioned above (you'll need to setup the email account that you used to send the backed-up contacts to in order to access the file or use Dropbox (or similar)).
If you have the same issue after importing the saved contacts from the backup (while the device is restored as new) , the probem lies somewhere within those backed-up contacts and you'll have to start over again.
If you have no issue with your backed-up, then restored contacts, the problem is/was somewhere in your setttings (either not correctly set up or a glitch). If you restore from that backup, you'll also restore the glitch.
Ok for any one else who is having this problem here is the fix. The contacts are synced threw an application if your seeing a bunch of kids info in your contacts list it's probably your kid synced contacts to facebook.
Go to settings
Go to facebook
You have to enter the password. if you don't know it the screen you need will never come up.
Once the pass word is entered you will have the option to unsync the calendar and contacts and something else it don't remember.
Once you unsync then go back to your contacts and you can follow the deleting instructions.
Personally I think there should be a passcode that must be entered to make changes like this before you are allowed to do this but that a fight for another day.
Facebook strikes again. 😐
