How do I install Windows XP on my MacBook?

I have Boot Camp 3.0.4. However, apparently this does not support Windows XP SP2 and 3. Is there a way I can update Boot Camp to 4.0 or a way I can install Windows without using Boot Camp? I've tried creating a new partition for windows in the Disk Utility app, however, when I reboot my Mac and hold down the option key the new partition does not appear with the original. I have the installation CD for WIndows XP SP2, however, I am using an external CD/DVD disk drive. My internal CD/DVD drive is broken.

Any help would be GREAT.

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Snow Leopard supports Win XP. The only reason it wouldn't install is that your Win XP disk is an upgrade, and not a full version disk. In which case, you would actually need two working optical drives. One to put the XP upgrade disk in, and the other a previous genuine Windows disk (like Win 98) that the XP disk can self verify to. Then it will install.
