My sleep/wake button is stuck. How can I fix it?

This is an iPod Nano 6th generation. I bought it a year and a month ago. The sleep/wake button is stuck in sleep. The screen is blank. It lights up when I plug it into the iPod player it blanks out when I try to use it off the player.

This means I can't choose a song I want to hear, or use the radio when I'm walking.

I read that other people's experiences with Apple support were pretty frustrating, so I'd rather repair it myself if that's possible.

Any ideas?

Haha this is brilliant. Exact thing what has happened to me and cause I'm out of warranty they basically say your on your own. Even though this says to me they don't expect their iPods to last after year as unwilling to help and it's a fault of their own as only through ware and tear. For a 130 pounds I expect something to last longer than a year and abit but hay ho. Unfortunately everything on an apple product is glued, so unless you have the equipment for it and are trained its impossible. I've spoken to Apple many times same reply I get is they can swap a refurbished one for mine for 72 pounds!! Even though for 30 pounds more you can get a brand new one and new generation! Apple on this front are useless! I have just purchased a new nano today from Argos (fiver cheaper than Apple stores) as need it for on the go, however am keeping my old one for my docking station as new one does not fit that which is another pain. This would be my recommendation, however you can if you want recycle your iPod at Apple store and they will give you 10% of another iPod (a tener for the new nano) worth it? My view no hence why I've kept my broken nano as docking station will support it to change songs. However be warned the new nano is hard to start as currently looking for an answer why I'm not getting sound from it and it still has that dreaded button what broke so easy on mine so am very cautious of that. Sorry there is not much help and your on your own, however I am in the process to complaining to Apple so more of us what do so the more they will listen!

Thank you so much for your reply. Since I wrote my question, I looked up the website, "http://www.rbarrios.com/projects/" and this guy had photos of his personal repair of his own Nano. So that told me it could be repaired.

I took it to a Gadget Fix shop here in Portland OR and they seem to know how to fix it. They are going to charge me $50 US to fix the sleep/wake button as well as the volume buttons. It will only take a few hours to repair. I paid $134 for the new Nano in August 2012, so it's cheaper to get my own fixed. A new one is still vulnerable to breaking in the same way!

Onward.
