Why does my iPad keeps connecting and disconnecting from the new late 2013 iMac

Make sure the iTunes on your computer is iTunes 11.1 or higher.

Have you authorized this computer on iTunes?

Since your iPad was probably synced with another computer it will resist being synced with a new one unless it "knows it's yours", so to speak....

I have the same problem, but with my new MacBook Pro and my iPad 3. It connects fine to the wall electricity, but when connecting to my MacBook Pro it almost always keeps connecting and disconnecting. Sometimes it works though. No problem what so ever when connecting to the electric outlet with a regular charger.

Same problem. I can tell you it has nothing to do with the iTunes version you're running. It's more indicative of a hardware/firmware problem of some sort.

I have the same problem. Connects and disconnects. Does not always do it. MacBook Air Mid 2013, and iPad Mini retina. Plugs into wall fine... Any solutions yet?

I had the same problem and just found a solution. I tryed restoring all content and settings on the iPad (Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings). It took lots of time, however it didn´t work because when I connected the iPad and iMac the problem persisted.

Then I thought it wasn´t an iPad problem but iMac OSX problem. So I searched the web for "Reinstall Mavericks" and found this http://support.apple.com/kb/PH13871?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US.

It also takes like 6 hours with my internet speed. Next day I connected the iPad and everything is just fine.

I described both processes because I don´t know if in the end the iPad reset helped in the solution.

Yes indeed, but it is not difficult at all and I didn't lose any information or applications. Next day (today) I'm working in my iMac just the same as yesterday, I didnt have to re-install any applications or configurations.

In addition it is good news because it is not a hardware problem, but software. If someone find a way to reinstall the controller that is used when an iPad is plugged-in, I'm sure he's going to solve the problem. I took "the long way" because when I searched the web for controllers or drivers (as in windows) and I didn't find anything related, so I don't know how it works in OSX.

Well, I did nothing and the problem disappeared. Then now suddenly it's back, making me go back to this thread to check if there's any solutions yet.

Same for me - iPad 2 & iMac 2013. It happens sometimes. I created a bug report with number 17022827.

Charge ur ipad to full battery 100% and connect it to your mac. It's just that ipad tend to disconnect from low power connection. This should solve the problem.

I have the same problem. I changed of USB port, now it seems it is working (it's syncing right now). Hope that works, any way is frustrating this random problem.

Hi, this just happened to me today. Not sure if you're using an original iPad cable but that did the trick for me. Apparently my MacBook and iPad spazzed out when I connected the unauthorized cable. Hope this is useful for you!
