I've recently bought a new late 2013 iMac and ever since then I'm not able to connect my iPad 2 to it. When I do connect it keeps connecting and disconnecting again and again for some reason. The cable is fine and I've tried it with other devices. Just wondered why this is and whether you guys can help me out.

I have exactly the same problem and the same combination. iPad mini retina + Macbook Air 2013 i7
Same issue with my new iMac 5k.
iPad Air 2 connected to MBP 2013 having the same problem on left-side USB port, but works fine with right-side USB port. Seems indeed to be some kind of power managment issue.
I had the same problem. I solved it by connecting the iPad to my MacBook Pro through a (powered) external USB hub. It was not charging, but at least I could sync.
I tried revelation's suggestion and it works for now. I have iPad Air and a Windows 8.1 Pro PC. Copied the original iTunes folder from my old PC to this.

This is not my problem.
Doesn't work. This problem happens even when the Macbook is closed and sleeping, which means it has nothing to do with any software on mac.
I realize his is a few years later now, but I thought it might still help anyone who comes across this. Apple sent my new USB Cables and... Viola! The issue was completely remedied.
I have 96% power and it still happens.
