How do I activate AirDrop on iPad 4?
I have an iPad 4th generation that does not show the airdrop option. Wifi and Bluetooth is turned on. I am also using iOS 7. Is there a setting I need to activate?
iPad, iOS 7.0.2

AirDrop can be restricted. Have you checked Settings > General > Restrictions?
AirDrop would appear regardless of whether there are other AirDrop devices in the area.
But you mention using AirDrop in a school setting. Does your iPad use Profiles? Those might affect the ability to view AirDrop.

Thanks for the quick response. Unfortunately, when I swipe up from the bottom, the word AirDrop does not appear. If I could post a screen shot, I would. I have wifi, Bluetooth and an iCloud account. From what I can tell, my device should be compatible. Is there something elst I could be missing?

We're making progress. When I restart the iPad, and swipe from the bottom, the word AirDrop appears for a split second then disappears. I've also rest the router as well.
Plan C?
Thanks again for the help!
It may be giving you an error message.
Try: Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings and see what happens.
Also check your Restrictions, Privacy and Security settings and make sure you have not blocked AirDrop.
Network settings have been reset, no change. When I check privacy settings, I cannot find any mention of AirDrop.
Silly question, but this might be relevant. I am working on my home network with no other AirDrip devices. I am planning on using AirDrop in my classroom on a different network. Could this be the issue? I would assume the AirDrop feature would be visible anyway regardless of the network, but just not find any recsipients.
I won't be able to test it on my school network until Monday though. I appreciate your continuing help!
Turn router off and on again (wait 30 seconds) restart iPad.
Are you certain that you have a 4th Generation iPad? What is your Model Number?
Bingo! For some reason I had AirDrop restricted. Thanks for solving my problem!
Glad that helped. Enjoy your iPad!
