Itunes crashes under windows 8.1

This is a new computer so I never had a chance to try itunes under windows 8. However when I installed it for windows 8.1 it initially seemed to work until I tried to log in to my account. Since then it's been crashing. Re-install after re-install it seems to keep crashing as soon as I open it up.

Has anyone else had this problem? This is the latest itunes, by the way.

Thanks!

HELP!

At first, I couldn't open iTunes before it crashed. I've tried everything in this post. I've copied the one .dll file, I've copied all of the .dll files. The latter resolved parts of my problem, and I can now play music in iTunes. BUT it still crashes when I try to access the store. I tried the trick with the systemvariable and PATH, nothing.

Anyone out there that can help me?

iTunes version: 11.1.3.8

.....

After contacting Apple, I received a reply from their engineers:

Copy QTMovieWin.dll from: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support

to: C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes

When this fix works it is probably because there was an earlier version of the .dll in the iTunes folder, however there should be only one copy in the Apple Application Support folder. Having multiple copies means that you will need to manually patch iTunes again in future.

See the first box in Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.

What exactly are your symptoms?

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.

Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

I reinstalled it numerous of times. I tried copying the dll. thing and did the whole PATH thing and iTunes still doesn't work. It keeps telling me that iTunes has stopped working and then it closes. I really don't know what to do and I have been having this problem for 2 years. I originally had Windows 8 when I first downloaded it and now I have 8.1.

If you've already tried a complete uninstall and reinstall try opening iTunes in safe mode (hold down CTRL+SHIFT) as you start iTunes, then going to Edit > Preferences > Store and turing off Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases. You may find iTunes will now start normally.

Or see the Further Information area of Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates and try the tip about rolling back to the most recent version of iTunes that worked for you.
