removing phone number from iMessage
How do you do this so that contacts that use iPhones can send messages to me now that I no longer have an iPhone?
iPhone 4S, iOS 7.0.2

I think that logically that should be how Apple unlinks your phone from iMessage. I believe it does transfer your phone from your Apple ID if another Apple ID log ins to your number. However, not every new iPhone owner set up iMessages, so sometimes that transfer never gets to happen. Switching to Android is one of the reasons.
If you unregister the product does it still allow you to use iTunes and download music via wifi?
Thank you sooo much, I went to At&T and Apple store, they all said there was noting I could do since i didn't have the phone anymore.... looked at your post and BAM, fixed!!! 😀
Glad it helped!
Thanks Mike
A number unknown to me suddenly immesaged me between a conversation with someone else, advising that he was receiving my messages, oddly enough just on the one thread. Looking at it on my phone it appeared I had sent it despite not being anyone near the phone at the time. I could see the number in the 'I can be reached at imessage' window but was unable to remove it, this worked and now it's gone. phew.....
Still no idea how it got there but at least it's gone now, handset was swapped out a few weeks earlier at Apple, and that's the only way I can possible see where this happened.
