Are you sure you really have a Thunderbolt port? Some years ago, one of the MacBook Air models had a port that looked just like a Thunderbolt port but was actually called something else (Mini-display port). I believe this ended in late 2010. If your MacBook Air is late 2010 or earlier, you will have to use the USB port, and the USB to Ethernet adaptor.

I really need the details on how to set up the thunderbolt port so that the DSL modem is identified and works through it and is also identified in the mac osx os (10.7.3). The only thing that shows up in the hardware section for the system information is the thunderbolt port and that the thunderbolt to gigabit ethernet adapter is connected to it.

you can use the adapter with any Thunderbolt-equipped Mac running OS X Lion 10.7.4 or later, but you'll want to install the Thunderbolt Software Update 1.2.1 after having the 10.7.4 upgrade

Thanks for your help. The updates worked. I also updated to the latest thunderbolt software of 2.1.1. and the network section of the os fully recognized that ethernet was connected to the adapter. There are no problems also with accessing the internet.
