Interesting statement... not even a question. This is like complaining your car won't run but not saying what kind of car and the circumstances.

There are a number of things that could cause your problem. Post what kind of Mac you have, what you've tried to do to fix it, age of the machine, etc. and someone will probably pop in with a solution or at least start a dialog.

cd drive ejects cd without installing music. It makes alot of noise, then ejects. I have a Mac OS X 10.6.8. Question is why does the drive eject without installing? I have tried going to disc utility and repairing, unplugging system & restarting, turning off & typing command, option, P, R. None have worked. Also, brand new cd comes out of drive with scratches.

There are a couple of possibilities:

The CD could be damaged or a bad burn.

Your SuperDrive could be failing. Ejecting a CD without reading is a common indicator.

If the CDs are readable by other readers then this is probable. In the last 4-5 years, I've had to replace all the superdrives in my systems at least once. "Correct" replacement drives are available at OWC

New Super-MultiDrives for Apple Mac Pro - up to 24X DVD, 16X DVD Dual-Layer, 48X CD Read/Write Speeds

Amazon, or other sites. I always check what OWC is selling first since it's correct, available, and reasonably priced.

Disk Utility isn't going to repair a problem on a CD or DVD.

Having the CD come out with scratches isn't a good sign either. It is possible to polish out scratches on a CD/DVD, but it's best done with a rig like this:

Digital Innovations Skip Dr. Classic Disc Repair System - Walmart.com

good luck

What do you mean by 'and is readable on other media" Media is a CD/DVD. It is not an optical drive. Are yo saying that the CD con be read in other optical drives?

Does the MacBook read/play DVDs?

The optical drive in my 209 Mac Mini failed over three years ago.

There are different lasers for CDs and DVDs so a DVD can play but not a CD.

I have the same problem. There is one solution that seems to work best. DON'T BUY A MAC! just joking... get a sandwich sized plastic container and fill it to maybe one half inch with some dishwashing liquid, the kind the British call Washing Up Liquid, not dishwasher soap. Place the CD or CDR DATA SIDE DOWN and leave it overnight.

Remove the disc and rinse as thoroughly as you can. I will take a blow dryer to the disc after laying it data side up on a paper towel. Do not attempt to dry the disc with anything. A paper towel is derived from wood products. A chamois cloth that is freshly cleaned and dried does not hurt.

After this painful ceremony, try placing the disc into the Mac's drive again. The disc I'm presently having problems with appears to have no scratches or imperfections at all; I just played it on my alarm radio and it's fine. I think the Mac drive picks up small imperfections and ejects the discs.

Good luck.
