iPhone 5S restarting itself

Anyone else having their 5S sporatically restarting itself? So far, there seems to be no pattern, other that I'm usually playing a word game on it when it happens.

Curiously, my 5s seems to have stopped re-booting itself !!

Initially I had turned the touch ID off which seemed to stop it, then I turned Reduce Motion off and Touch ID back on, this appeared to reduce the frequency of re-booting, but now it's only done it once in the past few weeks.

I've never done an "as new" restore and I'm on the 7.05 s'ware.

I turned off touch iD and the problem went away. a few days later I turned touch ID back on and the random reboots started again. I went to a genius bar. They insisted it was a hardware issue and as the phone was still returnable they did a refund and replacement for a whole new phone and applecare.

This phone worked great, the finger print sensor worked so fast and accurately I could not believe it.

the next day I was back at the apple store getting a newscreen protector and the phone did a random reboot. Since then the phone has been doing 3 or 4 a day. I now have the touch ID turned off again. Guess I will go and get another phone. As this phone came from a different store I assume it was a different batch. I don't have much faith in this being a hardware issue.

Apple get a move on and fix this.

I've been having MANY crashes which sound just like what you describe at least 50% of the time after i:

1. Updated to 7.0.3

2. Unlock iPhone 5s using touch ID

I never had any crashes/apple logo/restart when on 7.0.0 or 7.0.2. Once I updated to 7.0.3 I started having "springboard" crashes at least 50% of the time. I did not alter the system at all between the OS updates.

Apple has replaced my phone once, but as soon as I updated to 7.0.3 the same problem raised it's ugly head. Often when I unlock my iPhone via the TouchID, the screen goes white and the apple logo appears until the

system "reboots".

If I turn off the fingerprint/touchID unlocking all the crashes stop.

Upon seeing a comment on this happening on MacRumors when Reduce motion is turned on I did my own little experiment.

If Reduce motion is turned on, Springboard/crashes to Apple logo occurs at least 50% of the time with 7.0.3.

If Reduce motion is turned off, I have yet to have a single crash upon unlocking via touchID. I have tried this nearly 80 times at this point.

Whether this is relevant to your situation I don't know, but I'm happy with leaving Reduce motion off as I don't have any issue with parallax, motion, animation that some others have experienced.

It may not be the answer for all, but try this "solution"; I'd be interested in knowing if their is any consistency to the finding.

After turning off Reduce motion I have not had a single reboot upon unlocking via TouchID.

iphone 5s
7.0.0, 7.0.2, 7.0.3
restored as new with each OS update, completely default/OEM baseline
regardless of apps loaded, only the "Accessibliltiy/Reduce motion" setting has given any change in crash pattern.

Good luck!

I'm on an iPhone 5.

It was rebooting like mad for a short stretch before 7.0.5 was released, and it reverted to normal operation under 7.0.5. However, after installing 7.0.6 this past week, it started to exhibit the reboot issue again. I don't know if this issue was reintroduced with the latest iOS release, but it needs to be looked into again.

Restart, reset, restore have all yielded similar results to before...nothing.

Has anyone else experienced this situation?

Hi,

Previously, I have this issue to until I switch the Reduce Motion to OFF. Since then I have no rebooting issue on all the iOS release..

Howerver I did some test with 7.0.4 and 7.0.5, when I switch Reduce Motion to ON, just to save some power, rebooting issue start again.. Switch Reduce Motion back to OFF, no problem.

And I don't bother doing the test again in 7.0.6...

Hope this helps.

Hi Simon. I think my experience is much more complicated. My iphone 5s keep rebooting like everybody else. Especially occur when I unlock it via touch ID or switching apps by double push the home button. I had it replaced at Genius Bar last week. And after I go home, I set the replacement iphone 5s as new iPhone. The rebooting still happen. It is hardly believe that it is a hardware issue. Even AppleCare hotline suggest me visit Genius Bar to have my phone checked with staff there.

I have the same issue and happens the same when using the touch ID when I first got my 5s..

I have done a bit of testing and of cause to make my life easier when using the 5s.

The test case I have use are as follows;

1. Switch off Touch ID, use normal Passcode only - Problem Solve even with the first iOS version.

2. Switch REDUCE MOTION = ON, with Touch ID = ON, Reboot Frequently.

3. Switch REDUCE MOTION = OFF with Touch ID = ON, Works well in later iOS version, no rebooting issue

For a start, probably you could try by not using the Touch ID, see if you still get the rebooting issue. Ya, I know its ***** when we bought a phone will cool touch ID features but not able to use it.

FYI, I have only 3 finger prints ID in my 5s... Read somewhere that if you put all 5 finger prints, the system will compare all 5 id's and may crash the system.. shouldn't happen this way but, some say it can happen..

Give it a try, and if its works, probalbly you can try the combination above.

cheers
