Q: iPhone 5S audio not working with 2014 Buick Intellilink

I recently purchased a 2014 Buick Enclave with Intellilink. My iPhone 5S pairs with the system. My contacts are in the phone book, it plays music as an iPod through the system, etc. The only glitch is that when I make or receive a call from the Enclave, the audio is silent. When I make a call, I don't hear anything. When someone calls me, I can hear my phone ring through the system, but cannot hear the call after it's been answered. I have tried numerous fixes, but nothing works. Any other suggestions?

    Congratulations on your new iPhone 5s and your new Buick!

     

    In my experience, when updates are released for iOS devices, compatible devices release an update to maintain compatibility.  Step 2 from the article below recommends checking with the manufacturer of your car stereo to see if there is a firmware update available for your car stereo:

    2. Update software and firmware if necessary

    Verify that both your car stereo and your device have the latest software versions. Contact the manufacturer to see if any updates are available. If your device does not have the latest version of the iOS, update to the latest software version.

    Sheila, thank you for the info. I have already tried all of the suggestions you had. My friend, who has an AT&T iPhone 5S (mine is Verizon) was able to successfully make and receive phone calls when paired to my vehicle. Therefore, I believe there is an issue with my iPhone. Whether it lies with the phone itself or Verizon, I am not sure. I'm guessing there is a glitch with my iPhone 5S or a setting that is the culprit, but I can't seem to figure out what it is.

    I went to Verizon and we tested out another iPhone 5S. It worked perfectly. So unfortunately, my phone was the culprit and a new one was ordered. I received the new iPhone 5S the next day and now everything works just fine!

    Sheila,

    I'm having a similar problem with my 2014 Buick Enclave.  My iPhone 5s connects, I hear music and phone calls, but when I set up turn by turn navigation on my iPhone I can't hear it.  No sound comes from the phone or through the Intelilink system.  Any suggetions?

    Hello All,

        I have a new 2014 Buick Eclave with and iphone 5, about a year old. Did all updates on phone. Been in constant contact with Intellink support. They have now opened a technical case re; this. It pairs but not all contacts. Text worked to play texts for 1-2 days now not on. Unpairs often. Does not understand voice commands and answers me in numbers.. Stupid! They tell me they are working on it. Help! I paid for all this tech. I can't use!

    Hi Sheila,

     

    So Im also having an issue with my iPhone 5S. Not just with audio in my car (music works fine by the way with my bluetooth in my car) but also with my bluetooth head set (LG Tone). I can listed to music with both, but am unable to hear when calls are either being sent or received. Is it a phone issue then? I have tried to reset the device, and still not working. Any assistance would be helpful seeing as how my state is completely 'hands-free' now. Thanks

    I'm sorry but I don't have a solution but I have a question for you. I am curious what you meant by "Text worked play texts for 1-2 days now not on."  were you able to get iphone texts through your intellilink? I recently purchased a 2014 BUick and am sorry that the intellilink system isn't more Apple friendly/more advanced...would love to get texts.. My iPHone is a 5. Thanks!

    Ok all, I have a solution! It took Keith from Buick HQ in Detroit to get it working!

    1. Go through ALL of your contacts. There can be no special characters or emojis. None! No hyphens, etc.

    2. Unpair phone and delete phone from car.

    3. Repair phone. Turn on " show all notifications" in your settings on the iphone.

    4. Turn off car.

    5. Exit car. Wait a beat...

    6. Turn car back on and it should work.

     

       I was amazed! Now I get texts read to me and she understands my voice commands to call contacts.

    I agree the Intellilink isn't very iPhone friendly.  My problem was that when the phone is paired and I'm using it for navigation the voice directions aren't audible.  I was told at the dealership that it only is audible when you are on the phone or listening to content from the phone.  That means if you're using the phone for navigation and the radio or CD player are on it won't work.  Siri works,  Reading Texts work, but not navigation....  So odd.  My wife's Ford flex manages it fine.  But not the Buick.

    You are brilliant! (and amazingly patient and have incredible perseverance-all things I'm not)

     

    I'm all hoooked up but I am still too stupid to get the texts read to me and/or don't know how.

     

    Please advise IF you have a chance. I'm using an iPhone 5/Verizon.

    GABMAX - my Buick 2014 LaCrosse isn't able to do the text thing...only Verano, Enclave and Envue or something. Thanks anyway though.

    When you hit show all notification and do the turn off car get out thing texts should work. I have AT andT but don't think that should matter. I also can't get voice from my google maps nav through phone. The car nav will only take you to a numbered address or a saved address in your contacts. Incapable of  " find nearest gas" etc. so bummed because Ford and Dodge do all that. Guess we have to use Siri more..
