Software Update printer driver update for HP causes an extra page to print that just has "2345X" printed on it.

A few days ago, Software Update showed a printer driver update for HP so I installed it. Now, after everything that I print, I get an extra page that just has "2345X" printed on it. I tried reinstalling the driver update but still get the extra page. Anyone know how to get stop this extra pgae from printing?

Same here. This started immediately after the Mavericks update except my extra page gets stuck in the printer halfway and the only way to resolve it is to disconnect the USB cable. It then spits out the extra page. Extremely annoying. This happens when printing from any application. Does not happen from my Brother laser printer at all.

Hey folks,

My next recommendation AFTER resetting the print system would be to repair the disk permissions. In order to repair disk permissions open the Disk Utility from the folder Mac HD/ApplicationsUtilities. Choose your volume with the OS installed and in First Aid tab then click on "Repair Disk Permissions".

If resetting printing system and repairing disk permissions does not solve the issue, then you might need to uninstall the HP Software and only install the HP full feature software from CD or HP download website. Do not run the HP Printer Driver Update from Apple Software Update.

For uninstalling the HP software go to Mac HD/Applications/Hewlett-Packard folder and run the HP Uninstall app. Also go into folder Mac HD/Library/caches and remove all the com.hp.xxx.plist files. Hence this completed restart the Mac and empty the trash bin. Then reinstall the software and try printing a simple text document e.g. from Textedit.

I found this helpful information on the HP Support Forums posted by Community Member Mandy_G. I hope this helps, and if you require more assistance please let me know.

This does not appear to work for me. I have done exactly as you say to the point of downloading the software from HP. It really does not allow me to do this as in the past. It wants me to do an update and get the most current, which I beleive is the problem.

By the way, I do get several errors that are repaired during the fix permissions operation.

There are apparently no Hewlett-Packard folders on my drive. I have hidden files exposed. There is nothing to delete.

Can I actually download an older version of the HP software? I do not have it. I am running a MAC on OS10.9

I found another link that had be restore my old drivers etc using the time machine. That did not work either.

As I had indicated, the issue is getting worse. After I finally get to print, the que clears, the printer goes into what seems a cleaning process, hangs for 2-4 minutes saying it is printing, shoots out a piece of paper, and says it has a jam (it does not).

I hit "cancel" and I am ready for the next print job, where it all starts again.

I am totally lost and frustrated and really appreciate your help.

Has anyone else got this procedure to work?

I encountered the same as you and the instructions were to go to HP to download the driver directly - but for our newest versions of Mac we are required to use the Mac Updates....... However, I found that by selecting the drivers for earlier versions of Mac (pre 10.7 version) - the error has been corrected and so far so good as the driver was able to be downloaded directly from the HP site and not as a Mac Update. Will see what transpires tomorrow after the machine has been turned off and restarted - but fingers are crossed and ever hopeful!

Before downloading the 10.6 driver directly from HP, I had partial success using a generic driver - was able to print without the extra pages and the 2345x sheet, however, documents would not print in color.....it was the lesser of the 2 evils for a temporary fix. As instructed above, if you haven't done so already, delete the printer from printer preferences and the HP files from the system. turn everything off and unplug the printer from the computer. then try again going to the HP site and downloading a driver selecting a version prior to the 10.6 version. then plug everything back in and add the printer..... good luck!

I followed your instructions .

I removed the printer from printer preferences

I removed the hp folder in the library

I downloaded solfware and driver per jdowp's link.

Now come the but,my computer would not let me use that download. It wanted to use software from apple. So that puts me back wherei was.Is it because i have os x 10.9 on my computer.

Tried all the above recommendations and the issue continues. Printing locally appears to not have this particular issue whether iMac using Lion, Macbook Pro using Snow Leopard, or Macbook Pro using Mountain Lion.

However, I wanted to note that the problem of the 2345x and the printer stalling on the following sheet is that it only does this on print sharing from Macbook Pros.

Software Update printer driver update for HP causes an extra page to print that just has "2345X" printed on it.
