A few days ago, Software Update showed a printer driver update for HP so I installed it. Now, after everything that I print, I get an extra page that just has "2345X" printed on it. I tried reinstalling the driver update but still get the extra page. Anyone know how to get stop this extra pgae from printing?

Don't know. IMO, the HP site is totally mucked up. It says this, even though if one tries to find the download button there isn't any. All I can suggest is to complain to HP that their stuff cannot be downloaded. I have all their DLs for my C4280 and C4680 AIOs.

Updated HP drivers compatible with Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard are available through Apple Software Update .

  1. Snow Leopard and Apple Software Updates : HP printer drivers, scan ICA software (using Apple Image Capture), fax drivers (where applicable) and utility are included in Snow Leopard. You do not need to reinstall or download any HP software for full print, scan, fax, and utility functionality.
  2. HP software CD and Web downloads : HP provides full Snow Leopard software download fromHP Software & Driver Downloads , and on the CD that ships with many printers. Please look carefully at the CD label to make sure that it supports Mac OS X 10.6.

Well if you had actually clicked through the link for the software, and then the 6 links after it, you would never actually find the software. You eventually come to a page that instructs you to install the drivers through software update. Which does not solve my problem.

But I hope you enjoyed the moment of snide superiority not solving the problem afforded you.

Hi Charlie - the issue re-surfaces if the old files are not completely deleted from the system. Please review the earlier posts by phdmom and HevnLghHP's "

Hey folks,

My next recommendation AFTER resetting the print system would be to repair the disk permissions. In order to repair disk permissions open the Disk Utility from the folder Mac HD/ApplicationsUtilities. Choose your volume with the OS installed and in First Aid tab then click on "Repair Disk Permissions".

If resetting printing system and repairing disk permissions does not solve the issue, then you might need to uninstall the HP Software and only install the HP full feature software from CD or HP download website. Do not run the HP Printer Driver Update from Apple Software Update.

For uninstalling the HP software go to Mac HD/Applications/Hewlett-Packard folder and run the HP Uninstall app. Also go into folder Mac HD/Library/caches and remove all the com.hp.xxx.plist files. Hence this completed restart the Mac and empty the trash bin. Then reinstall the software and try printing a simple text document e.g. from Textedit.

I found this helpful information on the HP Support Forums posted by Community Member Mandy_G. I hope this helps, and if you require more assistance please let me know.

I followed HevnLghHP's instructions above, then shut down the computer to start with a clean slate, then went to HP and downloaded the driver made for the 10.6 Mac version (didn't fix the issue with the 10.5 or the 10.7 versions) - would also recommend looking at HevnLghHP's earlier posts as well that provided instruction on how to properly remove the printer from the system before uploading the replacement driver. Hope this helps you some!

Has anyone had luck with the K5400? I tried finding the 10.6 installers, but it tells me to use software update 😠.

Just FYI, I found this in the Console:

HP_Officejet_Pro_K5400[11435]: The function `CGContextErase' is obsolete and will be removed in an upcoming update. Unfortunately, this application, or a library it uses, is using this obsolete function, and is thereby contributing to an overall degradation of system performance.

Been having this same issue for several weeks now after a MAC Update

Currently = 10.8.5 Mountain Lion (MacBookPRO)

Printer is an HP9800. Current driver (found thru printer utility) is ver 4.0.6

Looked thru the HP site and after locating the 10.6 MAC OS driver, tried downloading it and was redirected to a HP page stating that the driver was available thru Apple. Looked around on the Apple site but no luck finding it there either.

Could it be that HP is not making it available because these printers are no longer supported?

Also - question on resetting the print system... Does that mean ALL printers will need to be re-installed? Or just the one I'm having issues with? (I currently have 5 printers installed and don't look forward to having to re-install every one of them again.)

I have the same problem: I have iMac, Mountain Lion OS X 10.8.5, and hp Photosmart C3180 printer. I just checked the Application file and it says that the HP Utility App. was modified on October 27, 2013. The version is 5.19.2. This is about when the problem started for me. This morning I found this discussion on the hp Support Forum. Most recent post was 11/26/13.

It appears that MBJustice, an hp employee, and HevnLghHelP (who posted here) have responded and say that a fix is on the way. I hope that's the case since I have a load of stuff to print before the holidays. It sounds like there is no driver available for OS 10.8.5.

Software Update printer driver update for HP causes an extra page to print that just has "2345X" printed on it.
