Same problem here...
The monitor says Chrome is using significant energy too but:
1) I've always used it, never had a problem before upgrading to mavericks yesterday
2) When using Safari, the Energy Impact the activity monitor shows for it is not that different from Chrome.
Have a 15'' Retina MBP
look, we get mavericks is supposed to increase battery life, but we're having some kind of trouble that's making the system not work fine, and you pointing out what it's SUPPOSED to do doesn't help
Contact Apple for appt. for diagnosis of your error in shop at a local Apple store. đ
I've been using Safari since my last post and no improvement so far.
Also, my MBP is hot all the time. Never had this problem before upgrading
Since installing Mavericks AND after spotlight finished indexing, I, too, am experiencing shorter battery life on my 2012 13" MacBook Pro 2.9GHz Intel Core i7 with 16GB ram, 240 OWC Extreme Pro 6G SSD. I have not measured exactly how much shorter, but it is readily noticible.
Everything else seems to be OK, so far.
it's the same concern, thank you

There is a very definite problem John.
(I only use safari, no google junk here đ) I have a 2013 Macbook Pro with Retina 15" 2.7GHz, 512 SSD 16GB RAM and I have run every version of the DP for mavericks with astonishing battery time upgrade right through to GM release.
Since installing the public release I am experiencing abysmal battery performance of four hours max, and that's without any CPU/GPU intensive tasks.
I've reinstalled twice, and am seriously debating formatting and doing a clean install though I'm dubious it will make any difference in honesty. Can we assume that you are having no bad experience with battery drain since upgrading?
Regards,
Gabe.
Exact same problem and machine
Since you're a developer Gaby13, you ought to know how to use Xcode 5's tools to identify what is causing excessive energy use and how to correct it.
Yes, all my portable Macs have greater battery life, a variety of MacBook Pros and MBAs.
Politeness isn't a gift I think you have been graced with...
My background and experience is irrelivent here. I was merely highlighting the fact that there was a problem, and it certainly is not caused by open programs or their brand.
However I have already passed on my concerns to Exec relations, and engineering today.
Same here. Been using my 2013 Macbook Air since July and battery life has been chopped in half since the upgrade.
Reset SMC to get accurate battery time indication
