iWork '09 Retail CD - Upgrade to latest version?

I bought iWork '09 through the retail CD. I just upgraded to Mavericks and of course I would like to update to the latest version of iWork without paying for new versions of each app through the app store. Is Apple going to offer us an upgrade path? Those of us who bought the retail version are in a bit of a limbo as to what to do.

Just a word of caution here. Think before upgrading!

I've been -extremely- happy working with iWork09, esp Pages. Even made beautiful magazines with it and loved the professional options it had. HAD!

What stares back at me now is a dumbed down programme that obviously is intended for a 3 year old's first try to make a document on an iPad. (And it takes a LOT for me to be unhappy with an Apple product)

"Form killed function"(s) in an attempt to sync it with the design language of iOS.

If you are in any way using Pages for 'grown-up stuff', or use it for your SME's stationary or brochures; PLEASE THINK BEFORE UPGRADING to iWork13!

Yes, you will automatically get upgraded to the new iWork suite. I also had the versions from the install DVD and my software was upgraded about 30 minutes after the Mavericks installation. You will get the new version of iWork, and the '09 versions will be put in a seperate folder inside your applications folder. There were some features that were removed in the new iWork programs; all I did was go into finder and drag the iWorks '09 folder to the dock, the folder with the old '09 iWork in it. Now I have access to both versions from the dock. Hope that answer helped some.

Ever since the appearance of Numbers, I have been expecting that Apple would upgrade it to a level "equal or better" than Excel... Year after year using both software... Numbers for simple spreadsheets and Excel for demanding ones....

NEVER expected a DOWNgrade fron Numbers!

Same thing happens with Pages and (even though I hardly ever use it: Keynotes), according to the discussions on the web.

Now it´s clear to me that it is not likely to happen in the following years and maybe it will never happen; so, for professional work (at least in spreadsheets and word processing), stick to MS Office!!!

WHS3 - they are only saved in Pages 5 if you open and save them in that application. Now you probably are trying to open a document saved in Pages 5.0 in Pages 09. You still have Pages 09 onyou computer in Applications > iWork09 folder.

Use Pages 09 for your old documents and Pages 5.0 for those you create new.

I just discovered this thread, after a long and frustrating (and fruitless) struggle to keep using iWork. I'm writing this because I can't access the link you give here to the discussion about iWork '09. I just get the error message:

Not terribly helpful, but I'd like to see this somehow for the information.

Any ideas?

Also, I still need to find a way to buy iWork '09. I use iWork for serious work, and I can't use and don't want the "crippled" version, nor do I want to work in the "cloud" (i.e.., on Someone Else's Computer). In any case, I often have to work completely out of reach of the internet.

TIA.
