iWork '09 Retail CD - Upgrade to latest version?

I bought iWork '09 through the retail CD. I just upgraded to Mavericks and of course I would like to update to the latest version of iWork without paying for new versions of each app through the app store. Is Apple going to offer us an upgrade path? Those of us who bought the retail version are in a bit of a limbo as to what to do.

Found a solution from a user on MacRumors that worked for me, so I've copied it here:

So this worked for me:

1. Go to Mac App Store (MAS) > Click on Store > Check for Unfinished Downloads

User uploaded file

2. You will have to enter your iCloud ID

3. Once complete, all the iWorks and iLife apps showed that they could be updated instead of bought.

4. But you need to individually click into each application > Click update > enter in your iCloud user/pass and then it will start updating

Hopefully this works for people, it worked for me. Before I did all of this I had restarted my computer, but I doubt that had anything to do with it since when I went back into MAS the iWork and iLife suite still said I had to buy etc.

Well, when I went to the App Store earlier I tried every way I could to get the updated Pages and other apps. No go. Kept getting the $19.99 label. I just went back to the store to look again. When I hit the Featured tab, the label still said $19.99 but about a split second later they changed to Update. I didn't do anything differently, they just suddenly became available.

I am updating from the iWorks '09 apps installed from the DVD on my 2012 MBP and 2012 Mac Mini. So, go back and check again. Don't know what happened but I have all updated iWork apps plus GB, iMovie, & iPhoto.

I have just been charged 19.95$ for the update to Pages, despite I have the IWorks 09 dvd version too.

I was just checking if it made me buy or update and just clicking on it (without having to reenter my password as usual) updated it and charged me -.-

And the others keep appearing ans to buy, despite I've tried all your workarouds. Can it be because I didn't spend register it when I installed?

Posted this in another thread but think this may be helpfull:

After hours of searching and testing many solutions people said to work for them to update (but didn't work for me), I managed to get all iWork apps in the app store and to update for free with these steps:

1. Install iWork'09 from CD/DVD if you don't have iWork installed

2. Update iWork'09 to version 9.3 manually (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1563)

3. Change your system language to english in system preferences -> languages

4. Reboot and log in to guest account

5. Open the Mac App Store and log in

6. At this point you should be able to update directly from the featured page (or the app pages)

7. Install all updates, reboot and log in to your normal user account and change the language back to whatever you like

Your iWork apps should show in the list of your buyed apps

Hope this helps 🙂
