Can't Verify OSX Mavericks Download

Installation of Mavericks fails and states that download is corrupt and to redownload from the App Store. This is my 4th time deleting and restarting the download. File is the correct size, intact, and in the applications folder. Any help is much appreciated. Even though I have Comcast Extreme 105, I hate burning the cycles on this.

I am having same problem. For those who can successfully run the install, can you get the SHA1 checksum for your installation?

Open the terminal, and run this:

/usr/bin/openssl sha1 /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app/Contents/SharedSupport/InstallESD.dmg

I'm getting this:

SHA1(/Applications/Install OS X Mavericks.app/Contents/SharedSupport/InstallESD.dmg)= 6e3b5d13ee73186945197b040ad44378b0a7af58

Just an update from my end (original poster). Tried again last night, disabled sleep mode during the download. Download still only took a few minutes since I have Comcast Extreme 105. But for some reason, this time, the installation was successful. Writing this on my new 10.9 installation.

I also ran Memtest as another poster suggested. My onboard RAM is full of errors. I am actually bringing it into the Apple store to be sent out for repairs at the end of the week. I am positive that this has something to do with the download. Something with whatever verification or ram-caching routine they use as part of that step in the installation fails due to bad memory. So if you suspect you have bad memory, then just run Memest, get a report, and if you have failures, address those issues before you reinstall.

I wish everyone good luck with their installs, and I really hope that Apple Support is paying attention to this thread. This is a serious, unaddressed issue by their KB articles and support forums. And anyone with a Mac under warranty, particularly those with Retina Pros like mine with onboard memory, are going to need a service call to fix the memory prior to installing OSX 10.9.

Like a few other folks who replied earlier, I ultimately solved this problem by creating a bootable installer drive on a Mac that had already installed Mavericks successfully and then installed from that onto my Mac that was failing when installing via the App Store.

I think the people who solved the problem by replacing DIMMs maybe onto something. I hypothesize that when you run the installer from the same disk that will be installed upon, perhaps it is doing something funky under the hood like creating a memory volume which can be corrupt if you've got a bad DIMM. That would also explain why some people succeed if they try enough times.

Apparently, whatever it is doing which is so vulnerable to bad memory doesn't happen if you install from a different drive than the one you are installing to.

Instructions for creating a bootable install disk are here:

I had the same problem and this worked for for me:

After downloading and deleting manually (drag and drop from the app folder to the trash bin) twice, I tried to do differently. I didn't delete the installation file and simply launched the App Store, went to Mavericks page and pushed the button "Download" at the upper left corner (where the price of the app is usually shown), even though the copy of the installation file was already on my computer (this time I didn't delete it before dowloading again). The download started and at the end this annoying pop-up window telling about the copy verification problem didn't show up. Now installing Mavericks. Maybe this is just a coincidence, but I suggest trying since noone here seems to propose another solution.

Tell me if it works! And good luck!

I get the same error when trying to install Mavericks and have tried about everything. I have downloaded this 5 gig installer about 5 times today already.

I went so far as to reformat my drive, reinstall mountain lion, and try the Mavericks update on a brand new install. After that failed, I decided to get tricky and make a bootable Mavericks install USB flash drive. It fails with the same verification error.

Okay - this will probably sound stupid, but I cannot find an "App Folder" on my iMac.

I have tried to download Mavericks... it started and then nothing happened. Maybe it's there, but I can't find it. I tried again - went to the App Store, clicked on Upgrade and then Install App... and nothing happens.

Maybe it did download but is sitting in the App Folder waiting to be installed?

HELP!

I've tried some more three times this morning, but the problem remains. I'm still getting the message that says the installation file may be corrupted and coud not be verified. I hope Apple is aware of this problem and soon addresses and solves this annoying issue.

I had forgotten to mention that I also have another MacBook (MacBook Pro early 2011) and the installation was successful, which makes me wonder the problem is related to some configuration on my MacBook Air.

Both Macs are/were previously running Montain Lion.

I had this same issue and finally got it to work. i did 3 things differently the time i got it to work, not sure if any of them helped or if it was just a coincidence. i had tried 3 times yesterday and it worked on the 3rd time today. this is what i did

1) i did not delete the old file, i jsut went to updates and downloaded it again (had tried this before)

2) i fully scrolled down on the tearms and agreement (doubt this helped)

3) i unplugged my external hard drive and extra display

these were the only differences between my 5th and 6th (successful) attempt.

not sure why the issue is happening, i have 2 macs, it worked perfectly on one (2013 iMac) and had this issue on the other (2009 Macbook)

Hope this helps.
