Can't Verify OSX Mavericks Download

Installation of Mavericks fails and states that download is corrupt and to redownload from the App Store. This is my 4th time deleting and restarting the download. File is the correct size, intact, and in the applications folder. Any help is much appreciated. Even though I have Comcast Extreme 105, I hate burning the cycles on this.

I am having same problem. For those who can successfully run the install, can you get the SHA1 checksum for your installation?

Open the terminal, and run this:

/usr/bin/openssl sha1 /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app/Contents/SharedSupport/InstallESD.dmg

I'm getting this:

SHA1(/Applications/Install OS X Mavericks.app/Contents/SharedSupport/InstallESD.dmg)= 6e3b5d13ee73186945197b040ad44378b0a7af58

By the end, I found my way to generate an USB installer using a Mountain Lion installation running under virtualbox. It seems to work, so I guess my app store download is good. I will install it on my mac during the next weeks.

Probably the best thing is to wait a little, because most of the Apple users are now trying to download Mavericks, and servers are overcharged.

Hey guys - i think i might have found out what the issue was (well what worked for me..). The power settings were set to go to sleep as often as possible, which is why i think that would have corrupted the download. What worked for me was:

Go to System Preferences

Energy Saver

(Making sure you have power connected) Select the Power Adapter setting

Computer sleep: Move the slider over to Never

Display Sleep: doesnt really matter what thats set on

Put hard disk to sleep when possible: Uncheck

Wake for Network access: Checked

Enable Power Nap while plugged into a power adapter: Unchecked.

Now exit and redownload Mavreick! Hope that helps

I get the same error when trying to install Mavericks and have tried about everything. I have downloaded this 5 gig installer about 5 times today already.

I went so far as to reformat my drive, reinstall mountain lion, and try the Mavericks update on a brand new install. After that failed, I decided to get tricky and make a bootable Mavericks install USB flash drive. It fails with the same verification error.

I finally got it to install. I had my co-worker make me a bootable Mavericks flash drive with an 8gig flash drive in stead of a 16gig (that's what I used when I made the first one initially).

Hi all,

I'm having exactly the same problem in my MacBook Pro that I purchased in early 2010. I already downloaded it several times and always with the same result.

The funny part is that I updated my Mac Mini that I purchased around same time and it worked the very first time!! I used the same installation file to try to update my Pro but unsuccessfully 😟

Anyone found a solution?

Asuming i have understand you correctly, Do you mean you saved the same file to a flashdrive and tried again? Or did you download it again? See im pretty sure the issue is the fact that we download it, though we leave our machine alone, it goes into standby and the HDD are put to sleep. So for what ever the reason is, the file becomes "corrupt" and though the download looks like it completed.

To verify the file is correct open a terminal and run:

shasum /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app/Contents/SharedSupport/InstallESD.dmg

Result:

e804dea01e38f8cd28d6c1b1697487e50898dbe7 /Applications/Install OS X Mavericks.app/Contents/SharedSupport/InstallESD.dmg

Ok one more issue i just found out with this is you need to make sure your RAM is not higher then 4GB (or the original amount it came with - E.g. 2GB). For some reaosn the Macbook Pro 2011 models (and possibly others) dont behave nicely when they have over 4GB RAM when doing an OS X Install.

I can confirm the same files downloaded (that originally had failed) worked after a shutdown, replaced the RAM with 4GB, turned on and ran the installer. This machine had 16GB RAM prior. When the install is finished, i will return the RAM and am sure it will be fine. Will post if otherwise.

Bit of a nuisance but hey it works.

What error are you receiving?

Is there anything custom on the machine? I asume its all pretty standard by the sound of the specs.

If its stock - remove any devices connected. Make sure you have backed up your machine (run timemachine) and then restart your machine and try again.

Did you check the checksum of your downloaded file? Does it compare well?

You should also check your HDD doesnt have any issues - Run Disk Util, select the HDD and then verify disk. any errors? try to repair but make sure you have run timemachine before hand in case it really is your HDD and it goes to S**t..

If all else fails - call Apple tech support. It could be you have a fault with your machine (e.g. RAM issues which wont allow you to continue).

The same error as before "Can't verify Mac Os Download"

This MacBook is absolutely stock, no changes, nothing is connected, except power connector.

I'am trying to download it again. In about half an hour I'll try to check the checksum.

I've tried to check the hdd - everything is allright, also I've managed to check the permissions. It fixed some - but it didn't help also.

I am affraid in Russia apple support is very weak.

If nothing will help - I will try to wait a week or so, and make another attempt

Well one more option is to try the following (which has been posted on another thread):

Make Your Own Mavericks, Mountain/Lion Installer

1. After downloading Mountain/Lion you must first save the Install Mac OS X Mountain/

Lion application. After Mountain/Lion downloads DO NOT click on the Install button.

Go to your Applications folder and make a copy of the Mountain/Lion installer. Move

the copy into your Downloads folder. Now you can click on the Install button. You

must do this because the installer deletes itself automatically when it finishes

installing.

2. Get a USB flash drive that is at least 8 GBs. Prep this flash drive as follows:

a. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.

b. After DU loads select your flash drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left

side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.

c. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one.

Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the

partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until

the process has completed.

d. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side

list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.

e. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the

button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.

f. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to an hour depending upon the flash

drive size.

3. Use Lion DiskMaker 3.0 to put your installer clone onto the USB flash drive.

Note: The term Mountain/Lion used above means Lion or Mountain Lion.

Best of Luck!
