Can't Verify OSX Mavericks Download

Installation of Mavericks fails and states that download is corrupt and to redownload from the App Store. This is my 4th time deleting and restarting the download. File is the correct size, intact, and in the applications folder. Any help is much appreciated. Even though I have Comcast Extreme 105, I hate burning the cycles on this.

I am having same problem. For those who can successfully run the install, can you get the SHA1 checksum for your installation?

Open the terminal, and run this:

/usr/bin/openssl sha1 /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app/Contents/SharedSupport/InstallESD.dmg

I'm getting this:

SHA1(/Applications/Install OS X Mavericks.app/Contents/SharedSupport/InstallESD.dmg)= 6e3b5d13ee73186945197b040ad44378b0a7af58

I have tried to install Mavericks on several machines. If I walk away and come back hours later it never works. I go through the process and a NEW download starts all over again. Frustrating. If I get back to the machine soon after it finishes downloading, and proceed, it seems to work. Why it redownloads once it has completed I do not understand.

For those who don't know, to run a system test (memtest) on your Mac, restart and hold option(alt) + d (or just d if not connected to the network). It should load up with a blue screen with a few options, choose the one that does a full test.

So that's why mine actually worked when I changed my RAM. I thought it was the memory size, though it isn't - I just had bad memory. I eventually did the hardware test on my machine, and my RAM came back faulty.

meadowsoft - I agree, it would be nice if the install came back with more useful information on why it failed, rather then an error that suggest you to think the file you downloaded was actually corrupt. I can kinda understand why we get that error though, as when you run the installer - it is uses the RAM to cache the files, which then in turn (the faulty RAM) is corrupting the files and we are receiving the "This copy of the Install OS X Mavericks application can't be verified. It may have been corrupted or..." error. SO the download itself is actually fine, just the faulty RAM is corrupting it..

As medaowsoft mentioned, I would also recommend anyone who is having this issue to run a system test to verify its not a hardware issue.

Good Luck! 😉

Hello everyone.

I had this problem on my iMac and my MBP Retina. It turns out that, in the App Store, I had a pending update to Mountain Lion available for download. I thought I would be able to upgrade to Mavericks without applying that update. Wrong. I kept getting that error. After downloading Macericks three times and being unsuccessful in the installation, I simply applied the update and tried again. It worked. Same situation on both computers.

I would recommend checking the App Store and make sure you're OSX is up to date and try again.

Found a solution that worked for me. It seems that the installation process store the whole Mavericks Installation on RAM (I found out about this after running a program called Memory Cleaner) After the cleaning process was done, I started the installation again, this time it worked! So, check out the Memory Cleaner program from the App Store and run it to see how much RAM was occupied....

Wow ! After my 100th atempt, I was able to download and install Mavericks without any problems at all. I haven´t changed anything on my MacBook Air (late 2011). I had already decided to give up...... but today I was in good mood and tried again. Surprisingly, the download & install process ran smoothly. I have no idea if Apple has changed something in the installation file......

The solution is very simple.

On some Macs the system date is wrong.

Open Terminal (Utilities Terminal) and run the command

date

It will probably show a very old date

If you are expert change the date to latest date (couple of minutes +/- does not matter)

If you are not expert thanks to Michael Page. Follow his link on

When Mavericks came out I decied to wait a month just to see if it needed any bug fixes and finally a couple days ago decided to try the install. After the first ry ended with a failure to verify I found this post and all the replies. I tried about 5 times following various tips but none worked for me. Finally today I decideed to try again rebooting in safe mode this time and downloading the install package. To my surprise this time it seems to have worked. The program just finished the initial installation and restarted the computer. Now it says it is "Completing installation..." , and it now works great! So if you've run into this problem give the safe mode apporach a try.

Well Ok, here is some advice to the ppl, i have a computer store and i been trying a lot at the same time with differents apple laptops, and I have a answer, the installer have some serius issues with that error, because I downloaded a couple times the installer, deleted and downloaded again, so i was unable to install on one 13'' laptop, getting the FERIFIED error, what I did was install 10.6, upgrade to 10.6.8 then install the copy of 10.9 that I made on the USB by Diskmaker X, and worked nice, I tried the same USB with another laptop, 15'' and no problem, worked fine, in another 15'' Didn't work, so I tried with the 10.6 and didnt work because that laptop doesnt accept that OSX, so I downloaded 10.8.5, make a usb, I tried to install and I get an error, then tried with the 10.9 usb and worked fine!

I found a much easier one: http://aaronkondziela.com/2013/11/this-copy-of-the-install-os-x-mavericks-applic ation-cant-be-verified-it-may-have-been-corrupted-or-tampered-with-during-downlo ading/comment-page-1/#comment-552

In my case I was running a clean install so I didn't know how to set the date just like Apple support suggests.

After knowing the command syntax date “+%m%d%H%M%Y.%S” it was a blast.

Really...a 20 second fix after 2 hours of search 🙂

Hope it helps.

Ciao

The date/time is only one possible cause. In my case, the date command was producing the correct time, date and time zone. While I was finally able to get Mavericks installed last month, I ran into exactly the same download problems with Yosemite.

On my other computer, I used the OS X installer download to create a bootable USB installer drive. This installer also failed to work on the problem machine. It did however load the 10.10 Utility partition, so I was able to repartition the drive, reformat it and download a copy of Yosemite from this clean environment. Again, the installer failed to download multiple times, regardless of ethernet vs wi-fi, no screensaver or sleep active or user input. I even tried installing to an external drive to rule out the hard drive in the machine. Still no success.

The installer Log gave an error about unable to verify InstallESD.dmg and there was an error about verification failure from hdiutil.

This morning, I pulled the 8gb Crucial branded RAM upgrade replaced with the old RAM shipped by Apple. Presto. Installer works fine, and I'm posting from the machine. I suspect the installer that would not verify on the USB drive will also now work to install.

In the end, my failure was based upon faulty RAM.

Note: I could not access the Apple diagnostic to test the RAM.
