Trying to install OS X Maverick, asking for my administrator password
I think the only answer is to enter the administrator password.
I'm having the same problem. There are two admin accounts on my mac, and neither has a password. When upgrading to Mavericks, it's saying "your password was incorrect. Please reenter your administrator password" (there is no option to enter a username, as usually happens when asking for admin access). If I just click OK (i.e. no password) it says incorrect password. I tried entering the root password, and all other possible passwords to no avail.
Seems to be a bug in the Mavericks upgrade. There is no general "administrator password" on OSX as far as I am aware, and I've never had this problem upgrading before. I suspect the problem is that it doesn't like an admin account that doesn't have a password.
Actually, I found the answer on twitter.
Yes, it is a bug in the Mavericks upgrade. Mavericks does not permit accounts with no passwords, so you must go into user preferences and add a password to your account. Then the Mavericks install works fine.
It should really say this rather than just telling you that you've entered the wrong password.
I had the same problem. The solution to mine was different than davidj22. I was logging in with my work network account when doing the upgrade. I had the password for the local administrator account (any my work account is also an admin), but nothing was working.
I logged out of my work account and logged in with local admin and I was able to get past the password prompt and complete the install. Hope that helps others.

Apple probably assume that no user in his right mind would not protect their Mac with a password, rather than leave it useable by any passing stranger!

I don't have any "passing strangers" using my Mac, Klaus. It is mostly in my house, and if I take it with me I keep a close eye on it. I don't feel the need to password protect my Mac, or my phone, wallet, TV, etc.
BTW, if someone does steal your Mac, having a password won't help you in the slightest.
Unfortunately without using an admin password you will not be able to install Mavericks, it's your call whether you do or not. You can bypass logging in using the password if that is your consideration, it's simply a System Preferences box check.
The solution is very easy .. I was having this problem, but I found the solution 😁
All you have to do, when you are asked password 😠
1 -From the Apple menu choose System Preferences.
2 -From the View menu choose security & privacy ,, ( Focused ➕ ) , chose ( security & privacy )
Then, enter the password change, setting a new password, and you can now use the new password to complete the download 🙂 ( install OS X Maverick ) 🙂
Excuse me, because my English is not good,,😐
But I hope that I have given you solve a problem, and I want you to write down that I succeeded in overcoming the problem of the download,

Thanks for the many suggestions. I am going to try the Mubattat approach. By the way All my computers have administrator passwords.
